Replacing the
Quiet Reminder of a Once Thriving Community The tornado of
November 6, 2005 took the building but not the
church.
The congregation of Baker Chapel has always been
like one big family coming together to do God’s
work. Since
the 1840’s
generations have worshipped together at this
location, which served as the last community
public landmark. Baker Chapel stood as a quiet
reminder of a once thriving community. There
was never any doubt that we would rebuild.
Ironically, a building committee had been
formed about 2 weeks before the tornado hit.
The committee’s job at that time was to
investigate the possibility of expanding our
sanctuary and building a gym sometime in the
future. We felt there was a need to provide not
only a place for fellowship but for recreation
in Degonia Springs. Little did we know that we
were being prepared for a much bigger project.
The loss of our building was an extremely
tragic event; however, it has brought our
congregation even closer together. We have been
working numerous hours planning and coordinating
the rebuilding project. Our hope is to have our
new sanctuary completed within the next year.
Through the power of the holy spirit, Baker
Chapel is committed to celebrating God,
supporting one another, growing in Christ,
serving others, and reaching people in
Jesus' name.
