Tonight nine of us that are going on the Texas trip next week met
at the church for a conference call. Sept. 6-9,
ten Baker Chapel members and four other members
of the Boonville community will travel to
Groesbeck Texas. They along with many other
volunteers from around the country will join the
New York Says Thank You Foundation build their
2007 project. We will build a new house for
James and Eva Vincent and their family. Their
house was destroyed by a tornado last December.
For more information about the family and the
foundation, visit their website
newyorksaysthankyou.org
Participating in the conference call were the
following:
Baker Chapel
Jeff - New York Says Thank You Foundation
Co-founder and organizer of the build projects.
Starvos - New York Says Thank You Foundation
Co-founder and General contractor.
Bob - Lead Builder on this project.
Brian - Pre-construction Services Manager for a
construction company in Dallas Texas.
Charlie - He was the Construction Supervisor in
charge of the Twin Tower clean-up in New York.
Those of us at Baker Chapel spent one hour
finalizing our travel plans and preparing
questions for the conference call. The purpose
of the conference call was to get everybody
updated on the project. We were able to
establish a projected time-line for the
different areas of construction. The house
consists of 2700 square feet with a covered
porch and an additional garage. They will pour
the concrete tomorrow morning. We intend to
arrive in Texas on Sept. 6 in the early
afternoon. We will evaluate the sight and help
prepare the lay out. The work days will be Sept.
7-8. We hope to have the house completely
framed, siding installed, decked and a
possibility of roofing as well in these two
days. If it is God's will, his plan and his
time-line, we beleive it is possible. We at
Baker Chapel are very excited about having this
opportunity, to give something back by "paying
forward".

Volunteers worked today grading, seeding grass and covering with
straw. They also started watering the seeded
areas today. It has been very hot and dry here.
I think the temperature has been above 91
degrees for the last 24 days. They decided that
we needed to get the grass starting to grow. It
needs to get some growth on it before this fall.

DEDICATION SUNDAY!
Open House was held from 1:00 to 5:30 p.m. With the dedication
service beginning at 5:30 p.m. Six different
singing groups entertained in the sanctuary all
afternoon. They included; New Harmony Voices,
Mt. Gilead Singers, First Baptist Church,
Lighthouse Praise Team, The Holders, and the
Baker Chapel Praise Team. The opening song for
the Dedication Service was "I'll Fly Away". This
was the first song that was in the bulletin
November 6, 2005, the day the tornado hit. We
recognized four former pastors who were in
attendance today. Their was a time of
reflection. A few people spoke about a specific
experience with Baker Chapel. Most of them were
about the tornado or since that time. District
Superintendent Rev. Glenn Howell shared words
and performed the Consecration of the Building.
The closing song led by the Gentry Sisters and
the Baker Chapel Praise Team was "We are
Standing on Holy Ground". The scripture for the
service was Psalm Chapter 84: 1-4, 10-12 and
Matthew Chapter 7: 24-27. Over 600 people signed
the registration book through out the day. And I
am quite certain that many people missed the
book. We also severed BBQ pork, hamburgers, hot
dogs, drinks, cake and many varieties of
homemade cookies. It was a blessed day to thank
the many volunteers, and to give God all the
Glory, for what he has done.

I arrived on site this morning at 5:05 a.m. Neil and his concrete
crew and Kevin were already working with lights.
The concrete pumper truck was setting up, and
the laser screed was being prepared. The first
load of concrete began unloading at 5:35 a.m.
The last full concrete truck was unloaded at
7:58 a.m. The remaining concrete needed was
measured and called in for delivery. By approx
8:45 a.m. with a little help from a few
volunteers the last of the concrete was poured
for a total of 72 yards. By 2:00 p.m. the
concrete had been troweled, grooves cut and
sealer applied. The concrete had coloring
installed. I don't know the "official" color.
But I will describe it as a "light colored
chocolate". They finished none too soon, as
temperatures reached 100 degrees this afternoon.
Other volunteers removed forms from yesterdays
concrete and seeded grass on the former building
site.

Wednesday, August 22, 2007
Neil and his concrete crew returned today. His crew along with
other volunteers, set the J-bolts in concrete to
attach the side-wall plates. They also
constructed and poured the concrete pads that
the pillars will be installed on, for the
drive-thru canopy. They installed the rock base,
and prepared the area for the concrete floor.
Tonight, several volunteers worked on cleaning
the inside of the church. We also installed
several signs, posters, and did things in
preparation for the open house on Sunday August
26.
Philip
Tuesday, August 21, 2007
Volunteers finished placing the back fill (with rock) around the
foundation. This evening, Spike put some more
top soil onto the old building site, in
preparation for seeding.
Philip
Monday, August 20, 2007
Volunteers returned today. They installed the perimeter drain tile,
around the foundation of the Life Center/gym.
They covered the tile with rock. They also
installed the insulation on the inside next to
the block, and back-filled with rock. They
removed the bottom four feet of siding on the
east side of the church. Eventually all of the
siding on the east side will be removed. It will
be reinstalled on the sides of the Life Center.
They removed the bottom four feet only, so it
did not get any concrete on it, when the floor
is poured.
Philip
Thursday, August 16, 2007
Six block layers arrived today. They installed two rows of 12 inch
block, and one row of 8 inch blocks. They have
completed all the block work for now. The
remaining split-face block can not be installed
until the walls are constructed. Volunteers
installed more erosion control blankets in the
drainage area. They also seeded more grass seed,
and strawed the area.
Philip
Wednesday, August 15, 2007
The concrete blocks, sand and cement was delivered today for the
multi-purpose building. Greg finished removing
the rest of the old asphalt this evening. Spike,
Kevin, and Derek worked on hauling and leveling
dirt on the old building site. They also
installed some rip-rap around the large culvert
under the entrance. The Praise team practiced
tonight for their part in the Dedication
Celebration. The decorating committee met
tonight making plans. Today was also the 18th
day in a row for temperatures over 90 degrees.
The actual temperature reached 104 degrees
today. This was the hottest day since back in
1966.
Philip
Tuesday, August 14, 2007
Volunteers poured concrete pads in front of the doors on the south
and west sides of the church today. They also
sowed more grass seed, and covered it with
straw. We worked on removing some of the old
asphalt this evening.
Philip
Monday, August 13, 2007
Neal and his concrete crew arrived today. They along with other
volunteers, had a very big, progressive day.
They dug the footings, installed the re-bar and
poured the concrete. These are the footings for
the multi-purpose building. They also did the
same thing for the four columns, that will
support the overhead drive-thru. Once this is
completed, you will be able to drive a car under
the canopy to load and unload in inclement
weather. It was very hot today, but we stuck
with it, until the task was completed. I also
delivered several bales of straw, that they used
to cover the seeded areas.
Philip
Wednesday, June 20, 2007
I went to the church early today before going to work. I moved
some dirt from the top soil pile to where we
took up the old parking
lot. I did this for two reasons. The dirt pan we
are using belongs
to the Warrick County Soil and Water District.
They have been letting
us use the dirt pan free of charge. They rent it
out for people to
use. Someone wanted to rent it, and they were
coming to pick it up
today. The other reason is; I needed little one
on one "God Time". I
will be giving the message next Sunday June 24,
I needed to clear my
thoughts.
Philip
Saturday, June 16, 2007
I finished hauling away the rest of the busted asphalt today. I
was also able to separate two loads of rock that
was under the old
parking lot. I dumped it in the corner of the
new parking lot. We
can use this for base at a later day. I also
loaded three wagon loads
of straw behind the baler for us to use for
landscaping.
Philip
Friday, June 15, 2007
I started hauling away the busted up asphalt from the parking lot
this evening.
Philip
Wednesday, June 6, 2007
Greg finished busting up the remainder of the old parking lot on
the west side. He also graded some more dirt
around the drainage
ditch.
Philip
Monday, June 4, 2007
Greg worked on leveling more dirt around the drainage ditch. He
also put some top soil around this area for
seeding.
Philip
Saturday, June 9, 2007
Greg and Derek worked a couple hours this morning moving top
soil, working on the drainage ditch, and they
started tearing up the
asphalt in the old parking lot on the west. We
have not had any
measurable rain for about three weeks, it is
very dry.
Philip
Thursday, June 7, 2007
They delivered the pipes for in the ground for the gutter
downspouts today. Sunburst Stained Glass company
of Newburgh
installed the stained glass above the front door
today. They donated
the glass and labor. It measures 72" X 72", and
is just beautiful.
Greg moved more dirt this evening.
Philip
Wednesday, June 6, 2007
The Operators Union delivered a small dozer today, for us to
use. Greg started this evening using the dozer
to grade and level the
drainage ditch. Volunteers worked some this week
moving in and
cleaning more items.

AWESOME!!!!!
Today was the first official service in God's new church. The
praise team started practice at 8:00 this
morning, and people began
arriving for church at 8:05. Church starts at
9:00. When we held our
service at other places, most of the time people
would start arriving
only 20 minutes before service. I sat in the
hallway before the
service, and just listened to the people has
they came in the
building. Some of the comments I over heard
were; "We should just
dance", "Just Amazing", "Wonderful", "It's so
beautiful". Their were
a lot of new faces, and some we haven't seen for
awhile. Their were
158 who celebrated in God's house today at Baker
Chapel. We began the
service with the congregation singing; 'I'll Fly
Away'. This was
supposed to be the first song on the morning of
the tornado. It was a
very tearful and moving experience for many,
myself included. Most of
the message included comments from several
members, as well as some
guests. Most talked about their experience
during the rebuilding, or
shared what Baker Chapel means to them. Prior to
singing our closing
song, 'Standing on the Promises'. The Gentry
trio sang God Bess
America. The Holy Spirit was truly among us
today.

First of all, I want to apologize for not giving daily updates
this week. I have been working 16&17 hours a day
trying to get the
crops out and hay baled. I even missed praise
team practice this
week. I was going back over some of the updates
the other night and
realized that I had left out two very important
things. We received a
$2500 donation from the children in a Jewish Day
School in New York
City last month. This was money that they
themselves raised. They
want us to use this money to buy supplies for
our Sunday School. I
also failed to mention that starting last Easter
morning, people began
writing scripture on the concrete floors. Some
people signed their
name with the scripture, some did not. I wish
that I had took the
time to write down each of the different
scriptures that people had
written. It was really neat, to see different
ones show up almost
everyday. I made a couple phone calls last night
to find out what
took place this week. Now for this week's
progress report.
Our dishwasher and ice machine was delivered on
Wednesday. Thursday
night about seven people met in the evening for
training on how to
operate the sound system. On Friday the sound
system was completed.
A new couch and two new chairs were also
delivered on Friday. They
will be in the hallway. We will be having our
first service in the
completed church tomorrow May 27, 2007. It is
not really a secret,
but we wanted to keep a low profile on our first
service. It had been
announced at church the last two Sunday's.
Members who were not in
church received an e-mail or letter. The media
has been very good to
us, but we wanted our first service too be just
us. It is not really
a secret anymore. Their was an article on the
front page of the
Evansville Courier today, telling about our
first service tomorrow. I
am really excited, and I expect this "special"
first service, to be
the first of many.

Some more new tables arrived today. Our new piano for the
sanctuary was also delivered. We are leasing
with the option to
purchase. We are going to try this piano and if
we do not like it,
they will bring us another style. Volunteers did
more cleaning.

The county building inspector came today. He inspected the
entire facility. He discovered a few small
things that he would like
changed. However, he did approve that it was
ready for occupancy.
Volunteers cleaned several folding chairs, and
started wiping the
dusty walls.

Wednesday, May 16, 2007
The last two doors were delivered today. Volunteers installed
these doors, and all of the remaining hardware,

The company came and installed the wire mesh safety glass in the
inside doors that have windows. The four
entrance doors into the
sanctuary, have a window in the shape of a
cross. The carpet
installers have installed the 4 inch carpet
boarder on the walls in
the sanctuary, and the fellowship hall. They
also installed the
mud/tracker carpet in the foyer entrance. I am
not sure if that is
exactly what it is called, but it is supposed to
keep dirt from being
tracked in the building. Volunteers worked Tues.
evening cleaning out
the utility room, and cleaning up. Some of the
items were put in the
storage trailer, and some items upstairs in the
attic storage. They
worked on several small things, that needed
finished.

Saturday, May 12, 2007
Today, God showed me that his plans, and his schedule were
different than what I had planned. You see I had
planned to work
ground most of the night last night, and try to
finish planting corn
today. Then travel to Purdue University where my
daughter will
graduate tomorrow. Well it rained yesterday. So
instead of being in
the fields, I got to help 20 plus other
volunteers move pews into the
church. These pews were donated to us last year
from First Christian
Church in Newburgh Indiana. We had them stored
in a building at the
Spencer County fairgrounds. With four trailers
we were able to move
them all in one trip except for two pews. Sid
and Marsha spent many
hours cleaning the upholstery and the wood work.
I think they look
great. I think their are 22 pews, and they fill
the sanctuary. They
should seat a little over 200 people. Other
volunteers finished
installing door closure's, finished installing
the hardware and braces
on the restroom stalls, paper holders and other
small jobs. I still
left for Purdue, I just had the pleasure of
helping move the pews
before leaving. They also cleaned, and brought a
few more things into
the building. We still need to finish some
things, and have the
building inspector return. I can just say, that
everyday is a day
closer to completion.
Philip
Friday, May 11, 2007
I forgot to mention that the sound guy came yesterday, and he
brought more of the sound system. He worked on
securing the ends on
several of the sound cables. Only one carpet
installer worked today.
He finished the steps on the stage in the
sanctuary. He also cut all
the strips for the base board. We are using
carpet as a base board in
every area where their is carpet. He will take
these strips back to
the carpet shop, to have the top edge sewed.
Volunteers cleaned more
dishes, and placed them in the kitchen cabinets.
The lock smith came
and installed all of the lock cylinders on the
doors with locks. Greg
and Kevin worked on installing panic bars on the
required doors this
evening. It rained this afternoon.
Philip
Thursday, May 10, 2007
Only two carpet installers worked today. They installed the
carpet on the stage, the sound room, and the
reading platform in one
of the classrooms. Volunteers installed the
remaining door closure's
that we have on hand. Two of the closure's are
on back order.
Philip
Wednesday, May 9, 2007
The carpet installers finished the carpet on the sanctuary main
floor. Their is a 16 inch boarder around the
sanctuary with a
different color carpet. This was very time
consuming. Volunteers
installed two more door closure's this evening.
Philip
Tuesday, May 8, 2007
The carpet installers returned today. They started installing
the carpet in the sanctuary. They completed over
1/2 of the floor.
Ten new round tables were delivered today for
the fellowship hall.
Volunteers installed two more door closure's
tonight.

Monday, May 7, 2007
Volunteers cleaned dishes and some folding
chairs today. A few
of the dishes were salvaged from the tornado.
Some of the dishes were
donated by another church. Volunteers also
installed door handles
today. Kevin and Greg worked tonight installing
door closure's and
panic bars. They were still working at 10:00
p.m.
Philip
Saturday, May 5, 2007
At least 11 volunteers worked at different times today. There
might have been more, but that was the count
when I left at 1:00. We
finished installing the rest of the doors on
hand. We have two more
doors, that we rejected due to shipping damage.
We installed several
of the door handles and some closure's. They
cleaned the cabinets in
the kitchen, as well as the refrigerator, and
floors. They also
cleaned-up in several other areas. They also
moved everything out of
the sound room, in preparation for the carpet.
Philip
Friday, May 4, 2007
The carpet installers finished the classroom, library/conference
room, small hallway, utility closet, the room
behind the stage wall,
and rolled out some of the carpet for the
sanctuary. The rest of the
carpet was delivered today. Volunteers installed
the video screen and
some of the automatic door closure's.
Philip
Thursday, May 3, 2007
The carpet installers returned today. They finished the
fellowship hall, youth room, utility closet, and
started on one of
the classrooms. I was returning home tonight
from a track meet and
stopped by the church. It was after 8 p.m. and
Greg and Kevin were
installing some more doors.

They finished installing the carpet in the big hallway, and
started on the fellowship hall today. Tonight I
was rained out of
the fields. I helped Greg and Spike install 6

delivered today. Everyday is
a day closer to being completed.

Monday, April 30, 2007
Five big rolls of carpet was delivered today. The carpet
installers also started today. They installed
the carpet in the
office, and the minister's office. They also
installed the carpet pad
on the stage, and the stage steps. Volunteers
installed door handles
on the doors that they installed Sat. They put
more items into the
storage trailer. We decided instead of just
moving things from one
room to another, to stay out of the way of the
carpet. We would just
move things one time into the trailer. Some of
these items will stay
in the trailer for quite some time.
Philip
Sunday, April 29, 2007
Jerol, Bonnie, and I, worked at the church tonight. Bonnie and
Jerol finished vacuuming the sanctuary and the
stage. I repaired and
replaced the three access holes that we cut in
the stage floor to
install the speaker wires. I also loaded the
scaffolding in my truck,
so it can be returned tomorrow.
Philip
Saturday, April28, 2007
A few volunteers worked today. They installed six of the inside
doors. These doors were in the areas with the
tile floor. Others
removed several items from the church and placed
them into the storage
trailer. The carpet is scheduled to be delivered
on Monday.
Philip
Friday, April 27, 2007
The interior doors were delivered today. We have 30 inside
doors. We rejected two of them because they were
damaged. There was
no school today. It was a scheduled 'snow
make-up day'. Since school
was never closed due to snow, the kids got the
day off. Some of them
helped to unload and carry in the doors. Five of
us worked tonight.
We cleaned the saw dust out of all the cabinets,
swept and vacuumed
most of the floors, picked up debris. We did not
get finished, but
we did get tired. We stopped at 10:00 p.m.
Philip
Thursday, April 26, 2007
The plumbers returned today. They finished installing all of the
sinks except two. Installed all the in-line
water heaters. They have
the water turned on and everything checked. They
will have to return
when the other two sinks arrive, as well as some
of the faucet
handles. Volunteers finished the final
electrical connections to the
grinder pumps for the septic system. They also
installed the two
microwaves under the cabinets in the kitchen.

Volunteers worked on applying polyurethane to the window trim.
They also picked up the left over blocks around
the building. The
tile workers returned today. They finished all
the tile, they had
left out for the cabinets. They applied the
grout around the showers,
and finished the remaining base boards. The tile
is now complete.
Greg and Kevin started installing the counter
tops, they completed the
tops in the infant room, nursery restroom, youth
room, and several
pieces in the kitchen. They secured the counter
tops any place that
their will be a sink.

Greg and Kevin started installing the partitions in the men's
restroom this evening.

Sunday, April 22, 2007
Joyce and Jennifer presented their final landscape design for
Baker Chapel today. They arrived before service
to display their
poster designs and answer questions, for anyone
who could not stay for
the presentation after church. They have
designed and divided the
landscaping in three phases. The idea of three
phases allows us to
proceed as the funds become available. They did
a great job on both
the design and their presentation. They will
both graduate in May
from Purdue University with a degree in
Landscape & Horticultural
Design. They were given the task of designing
the landscaping for
Baker Chapel, as their senior project. I hope
that they get an A+.
These are two very fine young ladies, who really
cared about their
project. Two of their family members came with
them today as well.
Jennifer's mother Sharon, and Joyce's sister
Jennifer. After their
presentation, we went to Baker Chapel, so they
could see the progress
since they last visited. I also learned that
they will be
participating in the same graduation ceremony as
my daughter Maggie.
How great is that! I will get to see all three
of them receive their
diploma's.
Philip
Friday, April 20, 2007
The counter tops for the kitchen cabinets, youth room, and
restroom sinks were delivered today.

Thursday, April 19, 2007
Carol and Gene applied polyurethane today. Sid finished the
receptacles in the kitchen. I helped Sid and
Carl finish installing
the chandelier light in the foyer. Greg, Kevin
and I worked tonight
in the women's restroom. We finished the
partitions, installed on the
stall doors, latches, and coat hooks. This was
quite a task. We were
determined to keep going until we had the
women's side complete. We
worked until 10:25 p.m. We will still have some
work to do in the
restroom, but the stalls are complete.
Philip

Several of us helped with a BBQ fundraiser today. The proceeds
will help with the expenses of the youth mission
trip to Colorado this
summer. For the last few years the Baker Chapel
Youth group and the
Main Street UMC Youth group have been doing a
combined mission trip.
They also do a lot of other activities together.
Yesterday they
cooked 24 pork butts. Last night we pulled and
BBQ them and placed
them in 1 pound containers. Today we grilled 48
slabs of ribs, and
over 100 chicken halves. We were sold out by a
little after 12:00.
It rained most of the morning. Since we helped
with the BBQ and
started at 6:00 a.m. this morning, no one worked
at the church today.
Philip
Friday, April 13, 2007
The cabinet maker returned today. He finished installing the
base cabinets in the kitchen, youth room,
nursery, and nursery
restroom. He also installed more wall cabinets
in the youth room and
the nursery. He accidentally drilled a hole in
the water line behind
the wall in the women's restroom. They came and
measured for all the
counter tops today. Two new cooking stoves and
one new refrigerator

Two volunteers worked today applying the final coat of
polyurethane on the two windows in the foyer.
Seven volunteers worked
this evening. We helped the sound guy install
and secure the large
speakers above the stage. He also worked on
hooking up some of the
different units used in the sound system. Some
of the ladies on the
decorating committee met at the church tonight
to pick out the cabinet
counter top. Four of us then worked on
installing the trim on the
window in the fellowship hall and the youth
room. All of the windows
have been trimmed. We finished the last window
at 9:15 p.m. We would
have finished sooner, but we had to perform
surgery on the nail gun.
Philip
Tuesday, April 10, 2007
Volunteers installed the conduit and electric wire from the
building to the septic pump. Others worked on
applying polyurethane
to trim on the finished windows. Some more of
the sound equipment was
delivered today. I did not realize that the
cabinet maker also
installed the wall cabinets in the youth room
yesterday.
Philip
Monday, April 9, 2007
Two plumbers were on site today. They installed all of the
toilets and mounted the two water coolers on the
wall in the hallway.
The cabinet maker delivered and installed, all
of the wall cabinets in
the kitchen. Volunteers applied polyurethane to
the completed
windows. Bob installed a trench for the electric
from the building to
the sewage pumps. He also leveled some of the
dirt on the south side
of the building. Kevin, Greg, Spike, and I
worked tonight. We
installed the trim around the window in the
nursery, and both windows
in the foyer. Spike installed some of the
weather strips around the
double doors on the east side. Several people
have written scripture
on the concrete floors. We announced in church a
couple weeks ago,
that anyone could write their favorite scripture
on the floor, before
the carpet is installed.

Bonnie and Debbie applied the second coat of grout sealer today.
Greg and I worked on trim this afternoon. We
completed the trim on
the second window in the minister's office, the
window in the office,
and the window in the infant room. We also
removed the protective
masking tape from the windows that are
completely finished.

Six volunteers worked today. All Baker Chapel members. They
finished installing the pipe from the septic
tanks to the mound
system. They finished some electrical
connections and installed
receptacle covers. They filled the nail holes,
and applied the final
coat of polyurethane on two window frames.
Frank's reinstalled the
large vents that Carl painted. The company came
and picked up the
electric lift today. This was the last piece of
rental equipment. It
seems that I have an admirer who is a critic.
Today I received my
second anonymous letter in the mail. First of
all, I hope that as you
check the website daily for my grammar mistakes,
that you are also
learning about Baker Chapel. Secondly, since you
do not think enough
of yourself to supply a return address, I am
responding to you with
this website. In my defense, I would like to say
that most of the
time I do the progress report late at night,
after working at least 12
hours or more, and attending one of many
meetings in many volunteer
organizations in which, I am involved. Yes, I do
make mistakes. I am
not perfect. Finally, I would like to point out
that the letter you
sent on March 13; my name was misspelled and you
had the wrong zip
code. In the letter you sent today; some of your
corrections are
wrong. However, I do want to thank you for
helping me with my
grammar. I only wish that you could correct me
before I place in on
the website.

Bob worked on the water leak again today. He has repaired the
leak, and we now have a valve and water inside
the building. He also
started installing the line from the septic
tanks to the mound
system. Others worked on electrical connections,
and applying
polyurethane to some trim.

First of all, I wanted to give you a little more information
about the ladies from Terre Haute that have been
helping this week.
Jeanne is a member of Emmanuel UMC and worked
Monday. Pam and Kathy
are both members of Barbour Ave. UMC and worked
Monday, Tuesday and
part of today. We hope they are blessed by
blessing us with their
help. Today volunteers finished removing the
high spots in the
expansion joints. Carol worked on the trim that
has been installed.
She used steel wool to get a smooth surface, and
filled the nail holes
in preparation for the final coat of
polyurethane. They stained the
custom made receptacle covers for the window
receptacles for the
candle lights. This covers were made by Jerry
Lutz. They also
stained the last cross for the windows. Bob
Gourley started working
on repairing the water line outside that
developed a leak during the
freezing weather. When we installed the outside
hydrant last fall, we
made the mistake of securing it with a steel
post. When the ground
froze in January, the loose dirt raised up with
the water line and the
post would not allow the hydrant to move.
Therefore it placed things
in a bind and the pipe cracked. Kevin and I
worked on trim tonight.
He had already completed the window in the
classroom by himself before
I arrived. We also got one of the windows
finished in the ministers
office.

Two ladies returned to volunteer today from Terre Haute. They
helped clean the tile in the kitchen, men's and
women's restroom, and
the restroom in the nursery. They also helped
with clean-up. Other
volunteers helped to finish removing the high
spots in the expansion
joints and install a light in men's restroom.
They delivered the
remaining exit signs today, and they installed
them as well. Tonight
Bonnie and I sealed the tile grout in the
kitchen, men's and women's
restroom and the restroom in the nursery. Greg
and Kevin worked
tonight and 'trimmed-out' the other two windows
in the sanctuary.

Monday, April 2, 2007
Three ladies from Terra Haute, Indiana volunteered at Baker
Chapel today. They cleaned, swept, and vacuumed
several rooms. Carol
and Gene applied polyurethane to the trim
pieces. Other volunteers
did some touch-up painting and installed the
three drop ceiling lights
in the sanctuary. Tonight Greg P. and Kevin G.
started installing the
trim. They trimmed out two windows in the
sanctuary, the door-way to
the coat closet, around the open area window in
the sound room, and
around the opening were the projector screen
will be installed. The
trim looks great. It really sets off the
windows, and the cross at
the top gives it a special touch.

The grills were fired up at 4:30 a.m. this morning. I arrived at
5:00 to help put the meat on. Jerol, Greg, Kevin
and I helped at
various times with the BBQ fundraiser today. As
I had mentioned
yesterday the money will go towards a new roof
for South Friendship
GB church in Boonville. We cooked 96 slabs of
ribs, 300 pork chops,
and almost 500 1/2 chickens. They served pork
chop dinners, 1/2
chicken dinners, and pulled pork dinners. You
could purchase single
chops, chickens, or pork butts. We used almost
50 gallons of BBQ
sauce. Some of the Baker Chapel ladies donated
deserts. We had 12
big cookers and four small cookers. They had a
lot of volunteers
help, and the deserts, baked beans and potatoe
salad was all donated.
I had BBQ ribs for supper tonight and it was
delicious. I worked at
home this afternoon. I worked at the church
tonight applying the
final coat of polyurethane to several pieces of
trim. When I left at
9:00 p.m. it was beginning to rain. We were
supposed to have
scattered showers most of the day. God blessed
us by holding the rain
away from the BBQ. I don't think anyone else
worked at the church
today. But I forgot to mention that Carol and
Judy worked on trim
yesterday. I began the day serving God by
helping another church. I
thought it was only proper to end the day
serving God at Baker Chapel.
Philip
Friday, March 30, 2007
The tile workers applied the grout in the tile in the foyer.
They installed some tile border around the
showers in the restrooms.
They put grout in the tile border in the
restrooms as well. Jerol,
Carl and Harley volunteered today helping to
cook 98 pork butts for a
fundraiser tomorrow. Tennyson General Baptist
and Mt. Gilead General
Baptist are hosting a fundraiser tomorrow for
South Friendship General
Baptist Church in Boonville. The proceeds will
go towards a new roof
for their church. These same two church's held a
similar fundraiser
for Baker Chapel last year. In southern Indiana
we really don't pay
attention to different denominations among
churches. If another
church needs help and we can do something to
help others, we just do
it.

Thursday, March 29, 2007
Tile workers worked in the foyer again today. They also did a
small area inside the second set of doors.
Volunteers worked today
doing touch-up painting and working on trim. Six
of us worked tonight
sanding, sealing, and applying polyurethane to
some of the trim. Some
of the trim has all the needed coats. All of the
trim has at least
been stained. Everyday is a day closer to
completion.
Philip
Wednesday, March 28, 2007
The tile workers applied the grout between the tiles in the men's
and women's restroom. They also cemented some of
the tile down in the
foyer. The tile in the foyer is 12 in. X 12 in.
and the tile in the
other areas is 16 in. X 16 in. The tile in the
foyer is very time
consuming. Their will be two crosses inlaid into
the tile floor.
This requires a lot of extra angles and extra
cutting.
Philip
Tuesday, March 27, 2007
The rest of the trim was delivered today. More sound system
supplies were delivered today. Volunteers have
attached some of the
finished trim to the stage. The tile workers
finished the tile in the
men's restroom, and did more layout work for the
tile in the foyer
entrance.
Philip
Monday, March 26, 2007
Four tile installers worked yesterday (Sunday) and finished
installing the tile in the kitchen. They worked
again today. They
applied the grout between the tiles in the
kitchen. They installed
most of the baseline, boarder tile in the men's
and women's restroom.
They started cutting the tile for the foyer in
the entrance of the
church. Volunteers worked applying polyurethane
to the trim today.
This evening Greg, Kevin and Spike worked on
trim. The rest of the
trim was delivered today. Their is a triangle
piece of trim with a
cross attached that will go at the point of each
of the windows.

Saturday, March 24, 2007
While most people were enjoying the beautiful 80 degree spring
day doing something for themselves. Nine
volunteers enjoyed the day
serving God at Baker Chapel. Under the direction
of expert gutter
installer Jimmy Volz and his helper Zach
Collins, along with Baker
Chapel members, they installed the remaining
gutters and all the down
spouts today. They also applied polyurethane to
several window
casings. They sanded some of the trim in
preparation for the second
coat of polyurethane. Two paid tile installers,
finished the women's
restroom floor, and started on the kitchen
floor. These guys are true
craftsmen. Anybody who can take six floor tile
and cut them into 36
pieces to craft them in a design around the
floor drain, is in my
opinion "a craftsmen". We ending the day around
3:30, with the
pleasure of having served God.

Friday, March 23, 2007
The correct number of volunteers from Epworth UMC in Indianapolis
is four men, and three women. They have been a
big help the last two
days. They worked till 3:30 p.m. today before
returning to
Indianapolis. They put the ceiling tiles back in
the kitchen, stained
the rest of the trim work, applied sanding
sealer to all the trim,
and started applying polyurethane to the trim.
They finished
constructing the reading platform in one of the
classrooms. They
installed more sound system wiring and cable.
The gutter crew
installed the one piece, seamless gutter on the
west side of the
building. They were then rained out, and had to
quit.
Philip
Thursday, March 22, 2007
Today, Baker Chapel welcomed at least eight volunteers from
Epworth UMC of Indianapolis Indiana. They along
with some Baker
Chapel member volunteers, did a lot of work
today. They installed the
outside lights by the front door, installed
speaker cable and wire,
installed several speakers for the sound system
in various rooms,
stained several pieces of trim, applied sanding
sealer to a few window
casings, and constructed a reading platform in
one of the class
rooms. They also installed a work counter (large
shelf) in the sound
room. Wow, that was a long list. Four people
installed floor tile.
They finished the floor in the men's restroom,
and started on the tile
base board. They have the women's restroom floor
3/4 completed. The
tile company owner came and removed the tile in
the kitchen. Then the
people who did not install the tile properly,
came and removed all the
tile cement, by grinding and sanding. The
materials for the gutters
were delivered today, and placed in the
construction trailer.
Philip
Wednesday, March 21, 2007
Greg stained some of the trim to be used around the windows
today. Kevin and Greg Greene worked several
hours. They installed
the door handle hardware on two outside doors,
closures on three
doors, and thresholds on two doors. They also
started on the hardware
on the east-side double doors. Carl has spray
painted two of the
large grills for the return air, in the heating
system. A crew of
four worked this evening till 9 p.m. installing
tile. This crew knows
what they are doing. They installed more tile in
the men's restroom,
and have started on the women's restroom. Last
night Kevin and Spike
removed all the ceiling tiles in the kitchen.
When the floor tiles
are removed for replacement, they will have to
grind the tile cement
off the floor. This will create a lot of dust.
They removed the
ceiling tile, so they will not get dirty. More
sound system supplies
were delivered today.
Philip
Tuesday, March 20, 2007
Greg stained the last two window casings today. He also applied
sanding sealer to the four windows he stained
yesterday. Sid
installed the boxes in the floor stage, for the
sound system. A new
tile installation crew (three people) arrived at
4:30 p.m. today.
They started in the men's restroom. The decision
has been made, to
remove the floor tiles in the kitchen. They will
have to grind the
tile cement off the concrete floor, clean and
install new tiles. The
tile company will pay for this re-work and the
new tiles.
Philip
Monday, March 19, 2007
Greg stained four window casings today. The wire and cable was
delivered for the sound system. Greg and Kevin
met with the company
salesperson this morning, that we are getting the
floor tile and carpet
from. We are not satisfied with the workmanship
of the tile
installation. The purchase agreement included
installation.
Therefore we are paying to have the tile and
carpet installed. We
told them we wanted the tile installation to
stop until this issue can
be resolved. The tile is not being installed
properly.
Philip
Friday, March 16, 2007
Three paid floor tile installers returned today. They installed
the tile in the laundry room and have installed
almost all of the
kitchen floor. They are cementing the tile to
the concrete floor.
After all the tile is installed they will put
the grout in the grooves
between the tiles.
Philip
Thursday, March 15, 2007
Jerol painted the finish coat of paint in the closet next to the
youth room. He installed the receptacle covers
in the youth room.
Bonnie also helped. Three people started
installing the floor tile
today. They installed the tile in the restroom
next to the nursery.
They also did about 1/3 of the kitchen floor.
Philip
Wednesday, March 14, 2007
Jerol painted the finish coat of paint in the youth room today.
Two people started on the tile layout on the
floor in the kitchen.
Philip
Tuesday, March 13, 2007
Jerol and Bonnie worked at the church today. They finished
taping the rest of the windows for staining.
Installed insulation
around the remaining windows and the attic door.
They swept the
floors were the tile will go. They painted the
final coat of paint on
the west steel door.
Philip
March 12, 2007
Greg and Jerol were the only volunteers today. They put the
second and third coat of paint on the double
doors on the east side.
Two coats of paint on the steel outside door on
the west side. They
did some touch-up painting around the air vent
grills. Frank's came
today and installed the permanent thermostats
and picked-up all their
ladders. The boards for the trim were delivered
today. The tile,
grout, glue and supplies for the floors were
delivered today.
Philip
Saturday, March 10, 2007
Five volunteers worked this afternoon, all Baker Chapel members.
We did several different things. We added some
braces in the steeple
base, finished the attic access doors, painted
the second coat of
paint on two outside doors, applied the first
coat of paint on the
(double) steel outside doors on the east side,
attached the handles on
two exit doors, and one threshold on one outside
door. It was another
beautiful spring day.
Philip
Friday, March 9, 2007
Today was a beautiful sunny spring day. Temperatures reached 72
degrees. The frogs were singing, the wild
turkeys scraping for bugs,
and the geese seemed confused as to which
direction they should fly.
A man from the fire alarm company was on site
today, installing the
alarm box and making wire connections. A few
volunteers from Newburgh
were back again today. They began scraping the
caulking that was
placed in the expansion joints. After it has
dried, the caulking
needs to be scraped, so it is smooth with the
floor. They also
stained two more window casings today. Someone
mentioned to me last
week that it looked like we were about done with
the church.
Although, everyday is a day closer their is
still a lot of things to
do. The volunteers from Newburgh this week have
been a big help.
Even though some of the things might have seemed
small. They did
several things, and their help was a big step to
being closer to
completion. We thank them, and may God Bless
them, as they have
blessed us.
Philip
Thursday, March 8, 2007
Volunteers from Newburgh and Baker Chapel continued working on
touch- up painting today. They also stained four
more window casings,
and painted two of the outside steel doors. They
installed the
fire/smoke alarm handles, that arrived
yesterday. They sealed more
expansion joints in the concrete floor.
Philip
Wednesday, March 7, 2007
Six volunteers from Newburgh UMC returned today. They continued
to seal the expansion joints until the ran out
of caulking. They
finished sanding and taping off the rest of the
windows. They are now
ready for staining. Frank's had a company come
today to check and
adjust the air flow to all the vents today. They
had previously
installed damper controls in the duct-work so
they could change the
flow if they needed too.
Philip
Tuesday, March 6, 2007
Several volunteers from both Newburgh UMC and Baker Chapel
worked today. They worked on sealing the
expansion joints in the
concrete with foam and caulking. Sanding the
window casings, and
stained two windows casings. They did touch
paint in several areas.
They also installed some electric wire. Frank's
heating installed the
remaining grills over the heat and air returns.
Philip
Monday, March 5, 2007
Six volunteers from Newburgh UMC worked at the church today.
They applied another coat of paint to the men's
restroom. They
repaired some small damaged areas to the drywall
in several rooms.
They also sanded the window casings in
preparation for staining. They
finished installing the insulation around the
window edges, and
installed several receptacle covers. They were
assisted by two Baker
Chapel volunteers.
Philip
Saturday, March 3, 2007
Jerol was the only volunteer who worked today. He applied the
final coat of paint in the library. I think he
was still a little
jittery (sp?) Sunday morning. I think he drank
the whole pot of coffee
by himself. Jerol still remains a very dedicated
angel volunteer to
this project.
Philip
Friday, March 2, 2007
Volunteers finished installing the rest of the steel door
frames. They worked on connections for the
fire/smoke alarms. They
hooked up the lights in the sound room. Most of
the ceiling tiles
have been installed. A few have been left out to
have access for
electrical connections and duct-work
adjustments.
Philip
Thursday, March 1, 2007

"With God ALL things are possible"
Matthew Chapter 19 verse 26
The building committee announced today that this spring when the
weather permits. We will be moving forward, with
the construction on
the multi-purpose building. This building will
be attached to the
east side of the church. It will be over 6000
square feet. Include a
multipurpose area the size of a Jr. High gym.
large youth room and
large storage room. It will also have a covered
area in front for
unloading/loading in bad weather. This was on
the original plans, but
we wanted to make sure we had funds available.
We are once again
moving forward on faith. We are hopeful that we
can construct the
shell and floor without exceeding our mortgage
limit.

Today I met the J&J Landscape Design Company Inc. at the church
at 9:00 a.m. Just kidding!!!! I met with Joyce
and Jennifer, two
Purdue seniors who are doing the landscape
design for Baker Chapel.
It is their senior project. I can tell you that
I am more impressed
by this two fine ladies, more than the first
time I met with them.
They really care about this project. They had
several sketches and
ideas, and many possibilities. About 12 people
came to here their
ideas as well. We made a few suggestions. They
left their sketches
for me to share with the congregation tomorrow.
I also learned today
that yesterday was Scott's birthday. He said,
the honor of placing
the cross on top of the steeple was the best
birthday present ever.
Five volunteers worked today. Greg G. installed
all the steel door
frames that had been painted. The rest of us
worked on many different
areas. We traced some wires, to identify a
missing electrical
connection. Sid and Jerol made the connection of
the ground wire from
the cross. I patched some holes in the drywall
(firewall) above the
drop ceiling. The building inspector noted we
had to have these areas
completely sealed. We installed several ceiling
tiles. All of the
ceiling tiles are in the infant room, adjacent
restroom, youth room,
fellowship hall, and over half of the big
hallway are complete. Greg
P. was the other volunteer today. He installed
several of the above
mentioned tiles. I went to town today for lunch,
and attended another
church this evening as a fundraiser for a needy
family. At both
places many people saw the steeple go up on the
evening news last
night. It is the "talk of the town" how nice it
looks.
Philip
Friday, February 23, 2007
Volunteers installed a couple door frames and worked on
electric. The steeple arrived at about 9:30 a.m.
The crane arrived
at 10:00 a.m. At 11:00 a service for "The
Consecration of The
Steeple" led by Rev. Randy Anderson, was held in
the sanctuary. Over
75 people attended this service. The cross that
goes on top of the
steeple was brought into the sanctuary for this
service. Those
attending the service could write their name
(with a marker) on the 4
ft. long tubing that connected the cross with
the steeple. The
steeple was transported on a trailer laying
down. The top of the
steeple pointed forward on the trailer. The
crane was secured to the
top of the steeple. The steeple was on a large
hinge pin and as the
crane lifted up the trailer slowly moved
forward. This caused the
steeple to stand upright. The hinge pin was
removed and the steeple
hung freely from the crane. The bottom skirt was
bolted to the
steeple. Before the steeple was lifted, Bonnie
Watson had requested
that we write a scripture inside the steeple. I
wrote John 3:16 "For
God so loved the world that he gave his one and
only Son, that whoever
believes in him shall not perish but have
eternal life." The steeple
was placed on the base at 1:10 p.m. The holes
were marked for the
bolts. The steeple was removed to drill the
holes for the bolts. The
steeple is secured with eight 5/8 long threaded
rods. The steeple was
placed back on the base and bolted. Once the
bolts were tightened,
the crane was unhooked. The crane was then
hooked to a basket. Scott
Brewster was selected to go up in the basket to
attach the cross.
Scott first placed the connecting tubing into
the steeple. At 2:50
p.m. the cross was set into place. When this
took place the remaining
people in attendance clapped, and those watching
from their vehicles
honked their horns. It is hard to describe in
words the inner feeling
of seeing this take place. This steeple is
beautiful. The base of
the steeple is 7 feet 8 inch square. The skirt
that was added to the
bottom is 13 feet wide. The steeple base is 38
feet from the ground.
The steeple is 29 feet 4 1/2 inches tall. The
cross is 5 feet tall,
with the cross member being 2 feet 2 inches
wide. Their is a 12 inch
lightning protection rod on top of the cross.
You can do the math and
see that the tip of the rod is over 73 feet from
the ground. Pictures
will be available on the website soon.
Philip
Thursday, February 22, 2007
Kevin, Greg G. and Greg P. finished preparing the steeple base.
Mike installed more ceiling tiles around the
borders. Carl painted
more door frames. Volunteers worked on
electrical connections and
clean-up.
Philip
Wednesday, February 21, 2007
Kevin and Greg Green started the final preparations to the
steeple base. The steeple is scheduled to be
delivered and installed
Friday of this week. They also installed trim
work around the attic
access doors, and started to shim the windows.
Sid and Jerry made the
final connections to some of the lights in the
sanctuary. Mike has
finished most of the ceiling frames. He will
install ceiling tiles
around the border of every room. After
inspection, volunteers will
install the remaining tiles.
Philip
Tuesday, February 20, 2007
Mike installed the ceiling frames in the men's restroom and
finished the sound room frames. Volunteers wired
the lights in the
library, nursery, infant room and restroom next
to the nursery. Carl

paint.
Philip
Monday, February 19, 2007
Brock finished spraying the walls in the sanctuary last night.
Mike installed the ceiling frames in the women's
restroom, and started
on the sound room today. Volunteers wired the
lights in the youth
room, and storage room. Kevin painted the inside
of the bulk head in
the sanctuary this evening. The library still
needs a coat of paint,
and several areas need touch-up work, and the
painting will be
complete.
Philip
Friday, February 16, 2007
Mike from Midwest installed the ceiling frames in the nursery,
infant room and the restroom next to the nursery
today. Volunteers
worked on securing lights with wires attached to
the ceiling. This is
a code requirement in case of an earthquake. The
steel door frames
for the inside doors were delivered today.
Franks Heating worked on
connecting duct-work to the vents and registers.
I stopped by the
church tonight at 9:30 p.m. and Brock Holder was
applying the finish
coat of paint to the sanctuary walls.

fellowship hall today. They also did the frames
in the
mechanical/closet next to the youth room. Three
workers from Frank's
Heating started installing the vents and
connecting to the duct-work,
in the ceiling grids in the areas that are
completed. Jerry and Sid
wired the light in the pantry, several
receptacles, and started on the
lights in the hallway. It rained most of the
day, turning to freezing
rain, then snow after dark.
Philip
Monday, February 12, 2007
Mike and Ben from Midwest worked on the ceiling frames today.
They finished the hallway, did the pantry next
to the kitchen and the
closet in the fellowship hall. Volunteers wired
the lights in the

Logan's 18th birthday!!!!
Philip
Saturday, February 10, 2007
Six volunteer's worked today. We scraped drywall mud from the
floors, swept, cleaned, and vacuumed. We moved
everything out of the
fellowship hall, and put some of the things that
are not needed, in
the storage trailer.
Philip
Friday, February 9, 2007
Mike with Midwest worked today. He started installing the drop
ceiling frames in the big hallway. Volunteers
worked on installing
the lights in one of the classrooms, and the
minister's office. Brock
Holder and his helper John came this evening
under the cover of
darkness. They are scheduled to work Sat. at
their "real paying
jobs". So they worked at the church tonight.
They painted the closet
in the fellowship hall, coat closet, sanctuary
ceiling and the
sanctuary walls. They painted several gallons of
paint. These guys
are a real blessing to Baker Chapel.

Three drywall finishers worked today. They textured the walls in
the sanctuary and finished the sound room.
Except for a few small
areas in a couple closets, most of the drywall
mud-work is complete.
They also installed the drop ceiling frames in
one classroom and the
minister's office. Volunteers installed lights
in the kitchen,
classroom, office, and more receptacles. The
kitchen lights are
connected and hooked to the permanent light
switch. Volunteers
continue to clean-up on a daily basis.

the sanctuary. These guys are workers from
Midwest Construction.
They will also install the frames for the drop
ceilings. They
installed the drop ceiling frames in the
kitchen. Several boxes of
ceiling tiles were delivered today. Electrical
volunteers started
installing receptacles in areas that the
painting is complete.

Six volunteers from Tri-State Painting painted today. Other
Baker Chapel volunteers helped paint and
clean-up. One drywall
finisher worked today. The interior design
committee met with the
carpet guy this evening. They finalized what
colors go where, and
took measurements.

TODAY WAS PAINT DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Today, volunteers began painting at Baker Chapel. Cletus Miller,
Gene Feagley and Brock Holder are three angels
from God. These guys
are professional painters. They have volunteered
their time and
equipment. They are using airless electric
sprayers. The three of
them along with nine other volunteers, all Baker
Chapel members began
painting at 8:00 a.m. today. They applied two
coats of paint in the
ministers office, work office, 2- classrooms,
mechanics room,
kitchen , narthex, and fellowship hall. They
also applied one coat in
the foyer and the men's restroom. They sprayed
and rolled on over 100
gallons of paint today. I was unable to help
today. Logan and I
attended the Purdue Ag Alumni Fish Fry in
Indianapolis today. We had
the privilege to here The story of Apollo 13.
The guest speakers were
Captain James Lovell, Apollo Astronaut Commander
and Gene Kranz,
former NASA Director of Mission Operations. In
Captain Lovell's
speech, he stated that their are three kinds of
people in the world.
First, "Those people who make things happen".
Second, "Those people
who watch things happen". And third, "Those
people 'who ask' What
happened"? Today, the people who volunteered,
are people who "Make
things happened". We continue to be blessed.

Two drywall finishers worked today. They sprayed the splatter
finish on the walls and ceiling in the front
entrance. Volunteers
worked at moving items around and covering them
with plastic, for
protection while painting. They also did
clean-up work. We are
hoping some volunteers come to help paint
tomorrow.

Wednesday, January 31, 2007
One drywall finisher worked today. Volunteers covered some of
the electrical boxes with paper and tape. This
is being done to
protect them, when we start painting. The paint
with be sprayed on.
We will paint one coat of primer, and two coats
of paint. Last Sunday
the congregation voted on their choice of color
schemes. We have
chosen the colors of paint and carpet for the
hallway, fellowship hall
and the sanctuary, and the tile for the
entrance. The decorating
committee will choose the remaining paint
colors.

Today I met two fantastic people. Joyce and Jennifer are both
seniors at Purdue University. They will graduate
in May with a degree
in Landscape & Horticultural Design. They have
been chosen by God,
and then chosen by their Professor to design the
landscaping at Baker
Chapel. Several weeks ago I was contacted by two
different people
about a program, that Purdue Professor Dr.
Michael N. Dana was looking
for community landscape planting projects. I
submitted Baker Chapel
as a possible project, and we have been
selected. I had the joy and
pleasure to meet Joyce and Jennifer in person
today. They are two
very fine young ladies who are eager to help
with our project. We
were scheduled to meet at the church at 8:00
a.m. this morning. When
I arrived at 7:50 a.m. they were already taking
pictures. I spent
time with them walking the grounds, going over
blue prints of our
construction, and sharing ideas from members of
their suggestions.
Greg also came this morning and spent time
answering their questions
and giving them a tour of the building. I left
for a while to attend
another meeting. Logan helped them take soil
samples and assisted
them until I returned. Gary Michel, our County
Extension Educator
came today to meet them as well. We went and did
an inventory and
identified the trees that has been donated to us
in Sept. from
the "New York Says Thank You Foundation". This
trees have been
winterized and protected until we were prepared
to plant them. Joyce
and Jennifer had many questions. They truly seem
excited and eager to
help with the project. We all went to lunch in
town. Gary jumped at
the chance for me to buy him and the others
lunch. I felt that was
the least I could do. Gary was one of the people
who contacted me
about this program. The other person who
contacted me was Larry
Ordner. Larry is the Regional Director for our
U.S. Senator Richard
Lugar. A special thanks to both of you for
sending me the
information. After lunch, we returned to the
church to discuss the
possible time-line for their work. And the
process that they will be
following. The Boonville FFA chapter, as well as
the local Master
Garden club has volunteered to help with the
planting of the
landscaping. This evening Greg met with the
person who is going to
paint the church, and to develop a schedule.

Two drywall finishers worked today. They continue to work in the
sanctuary. While the joint compound dries in the
sanctuary, they
apply the final coat and do sanding in other
areas. Jerry Lutz has
hand crafted a cover plate for each of the
receptacles, for the window
candles. They are made of popular wood to match
the window frames. I
have not seen them yet, but I have been told
they are beautiful, and
look perfect. I am sure it took him many hours.
Thank you Jerry.
Others continue to wipe dust from the walls, and
vacuum the floors.

One drywall finisher worked today. Volunteers installed two
pull-down access stairs. One in the storage
above the classroom, and
one in the utility closet.

Wednesday, January 24, 2007
Two drywall finishers worked today. They have been applying
compound in the sanctuary, and the final coats
in other places. The
following areas are ready to paint conference
room, ministers office,
main office, restrooms and kitchen. Volunteers
finished the boxes and
receptacles in the window sills. They also
continued to clean walls
and scraping floors. The telephone guy was here
most of the day
installing the phone lines.

Friday, January 19, 2007
Two paid drywall finisher's worked again today. The fellowship
hall, big hallway, nursery, infant room,
adjacent restroom, youth
room, and one of the class rooms are complete
and ready to paint.
When the joint compound is sanded, it creates a
lot of dust. We will
not begin painting until all the drywall finish
work is complete. The
drywall will then have to be wiped free of the
dust. I also need to
make a correction. We have 14 windows and 14
candles (not eleven) and
12 of these have been paid for as a specific
donation, such as a
memorial, or in honor of someone. Volunteers
today, removed all the
items from the sanctuary, in order to have easy
access to finish the
drywall. They also started on the sanctuary
ceiling today. Most of
the areas requires three applications of joint
compound, then requires
sanding.

Two paid drywall finisher's worked each of these two days. They
are making progress.

Tuesday, January 16, 2007
Four volunteers worked today. They installed cable in several
rooms. This cable could be used for TV monitors
in the future. We do
not have plans to install the monitors right
away. However, it is
easier to run the cable now. They also removed
all the items out of
the kitchen and supplies that were stored in one
of the classrooms.
They moved them to a different room, to allow
the drywall finisher
easier access. One drywall finisher worked
today. We had a few snow
flurries today, and the temperature is supposed
to drop to 17 degrees
tonight. Frank's has most of the duct-work
installed. They probably
won't work again until we have the drop ceilings
installed.

RAIN ! RAIN! RAIN!
Heavy rains last night and most of this morning. It then lightly
rained most of the day. We have had 4 inches of
rain since last
Friday. Two drywall finishers worked today. They
sprayed the texture
on the walls in the fellowship hall and the big
hallway. They used a
air powered sprayer to "splatter the walls" then
smoothed the edges
with a trial. The "candle lights" for the
windows arrived at the
church today. Each of the eleven windows will
have a candle in the
center, placed on the window sill. We pre-wired
under the sill and
the lights will fit directly into a special
electric socket.

The ladies on the decorating committee met at the church this
morning. They had some larger carpet samples,
they think they have
selected the colors. Some of them went to get
some paint samples this
afternoon to match the carpet. I was the only
one that worked at the
church this afternoon. I framed in, and
installed two doors in the
attic. They are small access doors through the
firewall. That way if
we need to get access in the attic, we can get
to both sides. It
rained all day today. They are predicted heavy
rains for tomorrow.
As I was picking up my tools preparing to leave.
Carl and Dorothy
came to walk around inside the church for
exercise, out of the rain.
Philip
Friday, January 12, 2007
The drywall finisher worked today. At almost quitting time three
other finishers came to help him, and brought
some scaffolding. I
think they just wanted to get a good look at the
place, some of them
might be helping him next week. It rained most
of the day.
Philip

The drywall finisher worked today. Frank's worked on duct-work.
They came and picked up the other outside lift
today.
Philip
Wednesday, January 10, 2007
Volunteers made the final water connections to the church
building. They removed the temporary water
hydrant by the meter next
to the road, and covered the pipe after the
connections were
complete. They came and got the large outside
basket lift today, and
are supposed to come get the second one as well.
We might need to
rent one again, when we set the steeple.
However, with a rental cost
of $100 per day on just the one big lift, we did
not need these two
machines to just sit here till we set the
steeple base. Frank's
installed duct-work, and one paid drywall
finisher worked on the
drywall. We have returned some of the electrical
supplies that were
ordered, that were not needed.
Philip
Tuesday, January 9, 2007
Today was a copy of yesterday, only it was a lot colder today
with occasional snow flurries.
Philip
Monday, January 8, 2007
Frank's installed duct-work today. Believe me when I say their
is "a lot of duct-work". One paid drywall
finisher worked on
installing tape and joint compound. He makes
good progress for one
person. Kevin and Greg are working on getting
prices on some of the
things that need to be completed next.
Philip
Saturday January 6, 2006
Seven volunteers worked at different times this morning.
Three
of us worked till 3:00 p.m. We put insulation
around the front door,
and the double door on the east, and trimmed
these two doors with
drywall. We re-shimmed the double doors. We
framed in the
video/projector screen opening too a smaller
size, and installed
drywall. The person who is doing our sound/video
system changed the
dimension on the opening. All of the drywall is
now installed. We
removed some of the temporary wiring in the
attic and attached some
bracing. We pulled the lift out of the mud onto
the gravel parking
lot.

Hallelujah!
Volunteers finished installing the vinyl siding on the east
side
today. The vinyl siding is
complete!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They finished about 2:00 p.m. right before it
began raining. One of
the lifts is still stuck in the mud but the
siding is complete.
Frank's worked on duct-work. The drywall
finisher worked again today.
The east side is where the gym will eventually
connect. We are
currently having a pledge drive with-in Baker
Chapel membership. We
are also getting quotes and firm prices on the
different things needed
to finish the church. Until we get firm prices
to get a handle on our
finances, we are not sure if we have the current
funds to start on the
gym. When the gym is built the siding can be
removed and placed on
the east end of the gym. We went ahead and
installed the siding so
the building could be sealed for winter.
Philip
Thursday, January 4, 2006
Volunteers finished installing the vinyl siding on the south
side
today. They also started on the east side and
got about 1/3 of it
installed. Frank's installed duct-work. One paid
drywall finisher
worked again today. Pastor Russ Able (spelling
?) of Mt. Vernon UMC
came today and brought with him about 15 very
hard working youth.
They were members of their youth group. They
clean-up, carried trash
to the dumpster and helped install siding. They
did a great job. It
started raining in the late afternoon.
Philip
Wednesday, January 3, 2007
Volunteers almost finished installing the vinyl
on the south side
today. They only have about 8 more rows in the
very top. It got
dark and they were unable to finish. Frank's
installed duct work.
One paid drywall finisher started taping joints
and applying joint
compound today.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Volunteers installed vinyl siding on the south
side today. The
south side is almost 1/2 completed. Frank's
worked on installing duct
work. It was a nice sunny day. It was announced
in church Sunday
that Mt. Vernon UMC has sent us a nice donation.
Thank you very
much. They have given us a lot of support, by
also sending volunteers
to help. They installed a lot of the fiberglass
insulation in the
ceiling.

Saturday, December 30, 2006
SHAZAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It was a GREAT progress day at Baker Chapel today. Fifteen
volunteers worked today. They were all Baker Chapel members except
for one, that was Gary Michel. Most of the volunteers worked on vinyl
siding. We finished installing the siding on the side walls of the
front (north side). We installed siding on the entire west side. We
have put the corners, starter strips, and a few pieces of siding on the
south side. Others finished installing the drywall on the walls in
the front entrance and the ceiling in the classroom that will have the
storage above. We got one of the outside bucket hoists stuck in the
mud. I went and got a big tractor and we pulled it out. They got
the other lift stuck later in the day, and it had to be pulled out as
well. We will leave the tractor on site until we finish the siding.
Just for curiosity, I took a scales to church today and weighed a
sheet of drywall. One 4ft X 12ft sheet weighs 110 pounds. I was glad
I waited until we were almost finished with drywall too find out how
much they weigh. Several ladies spent a lot of time today, trying to
pick out some flooring material at the church. They have narrowed the
list and will get larger samples, then review their decision. I
think they are going to have a few choices and let the congregation
make the final decision. The Buxton's provided a nice hot lunch of
soup and hot dogs today.
Philip
Friday, December 29, 2006
Volunteers worked outside today, under bright sunny skies. They
finished the vinyl siding around the front entrance. They installed a
2ft. X 2ft. vent in the wall, and installed the vinyl siding around
the vent. They put the expandable foam insulation and trimmed around
the outside steel door in the fellowship hall. Installed the lights
in the ceiling of the classroom storage area.
Philip
Thursday, December 28, 2006
They delivered 14 sheets of drywall today. This should be enough
to finish things. Six volunteers worked today. They finished
installing the drywall on the ceiling in the front entrance.
Celebrate! Celebrate! All of the double layer drywall is installed
on the ceilings. They installed the floor joists and the sub floor in
the utility room for over head storage. Installed the floor in the
storage room above the classroom. They used expandable foam
insulation around the two steel outside doors in the sanctuary. They
also trimmed around these two doors with drywall.

Wednesday, December 27, 2006
Ten volunteers worked today. Two worked on electric and the rest
worked on drywall. They finished installing the drywall in the
sanctuary. They started installing drywall on the ceiling in the
front entrance. The rental company delivered a boom/basket lift
today. We also returned the big outside lift. The boom lift will
work better in the mud for installing the vinyl siding. Frank's
Heating is working at night time. This way they can use the electric
lifts that we have rented for the inside work.
Philip
Tuesday, December 26,
2006
They delivered 80 sheets of drywall today.
Eleven volunteers,
all members of Baker Chapel worked today. We
finished installing the
drywall in the sound room. We finished
installing the drywall on the
ceiling of the sanctuary. FANTASTIC!!! We
installed more drywall on
the bulk head around the top of the sanctuary
ceiling. More heating
and air supplies were delivered today. Frank's
installed duct-work.
All three of the heating units are now
functional.

Tonight 119 people were at Baker Chapel for
the candlelight
service. After someone mentioned during
Praises, that they were
thankful for all the young people present.
Preacher Mike asked those
in attendance who were under the age of 18 to
come forward if they
felt comfortable doing so. Twenty-two young
people came forward. As
they held hands everyone prayed for these young
people, as they are
the future of Baker Chapel. We had a few music
specials. It was
quite impressive as the lights were turned off,
and everyone held
their burning candle, as we sang Silent Night.
Even more impressive
was Cindy Shelton giving a silent praise (sign
language) to a CD with
singing of Silent Night. At the very end, after
being moved to tears,
I began singing out loud "Surely the Presence of
the Lord is in this
Place". Mainly because, HE WAS!!!
Everyone joined in as we sang it two times. It
was a very nice
service. I would like to personally wish each
of you a Merry
Christmas. And may we remember the birth of our
Christ Child everyday
through out the year.
Philip
Saturday, December 23,
2006
Only four volunteers today. We did not
work very long. We
leveled some rock in the parking lot. Did some
cleaning up and
sweeping in the church. Installed some
temporary wiring for some
outside lights. We are having a 7:00 p.m.
Christmas Eve service at
the church.

Friday, December 22, 2006
Nine Baker Chapel members volunteered their
time and talents
today. They installed the last outside door in
the sanctuary on the
south wall. They installed drywall on the
ceiling in the sanctuary.
They have the ceiling about 1/2 completed. They
used all the drywall
that was on site. They also did some general
clean-up. A load of
rock was delivered and spread today. The
parking lot was starting to
get muddy from all the rain, and where we
trenched in the water line
last week.
Philip
Thursday, December 21,
2006
Seven volunteers worked today. They
finished installing the
drywall around the inside of the bulk head above
the stage. The sound
system guy was here today letting us know what
was needed in
electrical and wiring access in the bulk head.
We can now remove the
electric lift, that was on the stage for the
ceiling installation.
Frank's worked on duct work. It rained most of
the day.
Philip
Wednesday, December 20,
2006
The front doors, and the second set of
doors into the church were
delivered and installed today. These doors cost
several thousand
dollars, and they were installed by the company
that we purchased them
from. About eight volunteers worked today.
Jerry Lutz from Boonville
helped Sid with electrical connections.
Volunteers finished framing
around the last two heat vents in the
sanctuary. Mark that job off
the list! They also installed the two vinyl
corners and the starter
strip on the front section, around the new
doors. Gene has returned
to working at the site, and his arm is doing
really great. Frank's
worked on duct work.
Philip
Tuesday, December 19,
2006
Few volunteers today. They installed a few
more pieces of
drywall in the entrance and cleaned up. A
couple of people worked on
electric. Frank's worked on duct work. They
also have the heating
unit that services the sanctuary hooked up and
working. This will
make it more pleasant when we have Christmas Eve
service in the new
building. Greg, Spike, and Kevin were already
working this evening,
when I arrived at 6:30. We finished installing
the drywall on the
ceiling, inside the bulk head above the stage.
We started the drywall
on the bulk head. We worked until 10:00 p.m.
Every thing that is
finished makes it one step closer to
completion. One of the guys
tonight stated "All we have to do is finish."
Philip
Monday, December 18, 2006
Another 100 sheets of drywall was delivered
today. Bob Gourley
installed the septic tanks today. Frank's
hooked the gas lines up to
the two outside units on the west, and the
electric to one of the
units. Baker Chapel volunteers installed the
insulation in the
ceiling in the front entrance area. They also
started on the drywall
in the entrance. Greg P., Kevin, Spike and I
worked this evening till
10:15 p.m. We installed drywall on the ceiling
in the sanctuary.
Just like the rest of the building, fire code
requires two layers of
drywall on the ceiling. It is a slow process,
plus we have to cut out
for all of the recessed lights. Greg got the
lumber for the floor
joists of the storage area above the utility
room.
Philip
Sunday, December 17, 2006
Gene Green was in church today. He said
his arm is doing OK. It
really never did hurt much. Greg Perigo, my son
Logan, and I
installed vinyl siding at the church today.
Greg worked by himself
for almost three hours before Logan and I
arrived. With the help of
the parking lot lights. We finished all the
siding on the north walls
shortly after dark. If you look at the church
from the north (front)
the siding looks complete except for the front
wall that has the front
door opening. We cannot install siding here
until the front door is
installed. Yes I know, you are not supposed to
work on Sunday, but
their is a chance of rain the next three days.
Besides, working on
God's church isn't work anyway, it is a joy!
Philip
Saturday, December 16,
2006
The total number of
volunteers today reached thirteen. We
were
all members of Baker Chapel. Bob Gourley
and the boys (Derek, Jacob
and Logan) trenched and installed the gas line
connecting all of the
units and the water line from the road to the
church. They did not
have all the required fittings to complete the
line connections but
the pipe is in place. Other volunteers
installed some of the outside
steel doors. They installed the one in
the fellowship hall, one of
the doors in the sanctuary, and the double
door on the east side next
to the proposed gym. Everyone else
worked on installing vinyl
siding, and the boys helped with this also.
They worked mainly on the
north side (front) and a few pieces on the
west side. They also picked
up and organized the left over blocks and cap
stone, and cleaned up
outside. The Shelton's provided a great
lunch of vegetable soup,
cornbread (correction, awesome cornbread) and
cake for desert. I know
I have said this before. As the last of
us left after dark, the
building looks great in the silhouette of the
lights. The pure white
vinyl simply shines and the windows sparkle.
The most fantastic
thing about today is that three high school
boys (correction,
young men) gave up most of their Saturday to
work on God's church.
Philip
Friday, December 15, 2006
A small number of
Baker Chapel volunteers installed vinyl siding
today. They got several square feet
installed. It was a beautiful
sunny day, reaching temperatures of close to
60 degrees. Frank's
installed more duct work. Kevin and I
worked this evening. Kevin
worked on framing around the individual duct
vents in the sanctuary.
I finished installing the drywall in the
laundry room. We worked till
10 p.m. We left tired, but satisfied in
serving our Lord.
Philip
Thursday, December 14,
2006
The usual small
number of Baker Chapel regular workers
volunteered today. They finished the
framing of the bulk head in the
sanctuary. Installed some drywall in the
coat closet. Frank's worked
today installing duct work. We had our
first major accident today,
since construction began. A member of
Baker Chapel (Gene Green) had a
mishap with a nail gun today. The
nail went into his arm several
inches, and stopped at the head of the nail.
It went length wise with
his arm, missed all bones and arteries, thank
God. Gene is retired,
but has put many hours of volunteer work in at
the church. We pray
for a complete, and speedy recovery.

Frank's Heating
worked today installing duct work.
Volunteers
worked on building the bulk head above the
stage in the sanctuary.
This is for lighting and sound system.
Three of us worked tonight
till after 9 p.m. Kevin and Spike
installed tape and joint compound
on the ceiling and the walls of the storage
room behind the stage. I
finished the wall in the plumbing chase area.
I also worked on other
small areas (one man jobs) finishing small
areas with drywall.
Philip
Tuesday, December 12,

Yesterday they came
and emptied our large construction dumpster.
I am sure that this was the first time it has
been emptied since we
began construction. That just proves
that our volunteers, are very
caring people and have not wasted very much.
Volunteers started
installing the drywall on the ceiling in the
room behind the stage
wall. Four of us worked this evening.
We finished the ceiling that
the workers started today. We also
finished installing the drywall on
the walls.
Philip
Monday, December 11, 2006
Frank's Heating
worked today. Very few volunteers.
They
installed a few pieces of vinyl. I
reported last week that the paid
block layers had finished all the block and
the cap stone. Carl
reported in church yesterday, that when he
told the block layers the
address, so they could mail us the bill.
Their response was "what
bill". These people were hired to
finish the block. They decided,
they would just donate their time. We
continued to be blessed.

Friday December 8, 2006
Saturday December 9, 2006
The outside heating
and cooling units were delivered early Friday
morning. They had to be unloaded and set
in place by using a crane.
They did this very early while the ground was
still frozen. I was out
of town on business Friday and Saturday.
Therefore I cannot tell you
what was done each day, but I can tell you
what took place over the
two day period. Volunteers applied
drywall tape and finish compound
to the top four feet in the chase area behind
the restrooms. They did
this area, so they could remove the
scaffolding boards that were used
to work in this area. They finished
installing the drywall on the
south wall of the sanctuary. They
started to install the drywall on
the ceiling in the sanctuary. The
installed the floor joists, and
some of the sub floor in the second story
storage area above one of
the class rooms.

tell you that those three guys from Avon UMC
know
how to slap on drywall. The three of
them along with other volunteers
finished the drywall in the men's restroom,
the hallway between both
restrooms, and the walls in the nursery.
The gas company installed
the gas line from the highway back to the
church today.

The electric company unhooked the temporary
service today and
hooked up the permanent service. We now have
permanent electric
service inside the building. The block layers
returned today and
finished the block and the cap stone.
Volunteers finished installing
drywall in the utility room between the
restrooms, constructed the
wall at the end of the shower in the men's
restroom, and covered with
drywall. Some of the electrical receptacles are
now live with
electricity.

Tuesday, December 5, 2006
They delivered another 100 sheets of
drywall today. Volunteers
finished installing drywall on the ceiling in
the men's restroom and
the walls in the women's restroom. They
installed some of the
electrical receptacles in the boxes.

Monday, December 6, 2006
Volunteers worked on installing drywall on
the walls in the
women's restroom. They also added some
electrical boxes in a few
areas where we thought we needed them. They
delivered the five
outside steel doors and frames today, except for
the front door. Ron
DeVaisher from Avon UMC has returned this week
for the third time. He
also has with him the tag team of Don and Don
(sorry don't know their
last names).

Sunday, December 3, 2006
Baker Chapel had a float in the Boonville
Christmas parade
today. It was a cold but mostly sunny day.
Thirty one members
either rode on the float or walked along side
giving out candy canes.
Each candy cane was attached to a piece of paper
with "The meaning of
the Candy Cane". [Many years ago a candy maker
wanted to make a candy
that would symbolize the true meaning of
Christmas - "Jesus". The
hard candy was shaped like a "J" to represent
Jesus' name. The color
white stands for the pureness of Jesus. The
color red represents the
blood Jesus shed for us.] On the other side of
the paper it stated:
Baker Chapel says Thank You for your support!!
And listed are current
location and times of our Sunday Services. We
gave away over 2500 of
these candy canes. Some of those that rode on
the float threw out
other candy as well. Three members carried a
large banner in front of
the float which read Baker Chapel Says Thank
You. And "Faith Is
Stronger Than The Storm". The back drop of the
banner was a current
picture of the church under construction. On
the front of the truck
pulling the float was a poster titled "Jesus
Rocks". On the float
were kids dressed in costume, of the Nativity
Scene. A sign on each
side of the float read," A New Life--A New
Beginning". A large vinyl
poster 6 feet X 9 feet facing the front had a
picture of the church as
it will look when completed. Another poster on
the back stated "Jesus
is the Reason for the Season". As I walked
along handing out candy
canes. I over heard a couple of children shout
out very "excitedly".
Look they are giving away Jesus candy. And they
wanted some. I
thought about this later in the day. It would
be great if every one
thought of Jesus as candy. Everybody likes
candy!! Most of the time
eating one piece of candy leaves you with
wanting more. Candy is good
anytime. Before a meal, after a meal, in the
morning, in the
afternoon, in the evening or late at night. I
think those kids really
had something. We need to tell everybody "Jesus
is like candy". Then
maybe every one would want some.

Eleven members of Baker Chapel worked at
various times today.
Dave Swann from the Dale UMC helped as well. We
installed all the
drywall on the ceiling in the utility room
between the rest rooms. We
started on the ceiling in the men's restroom.
Installed drywall on
the walls in the women's restroom.

Friday, December 1, 2006
Volunteers included Baker Chapel members as
well as, Gerald
Malott and Pastor Mel Mozingo from New Castle
Christ's UMC. They
installed drywall on the ceiling in the chase
area behind the plumbing
wall for the restrooms. They finished the walls
in this area also.
This was a very difficult area to work in
because it is very narrow.
They built the wall at the end of the shower in
the women's restroom.

Thursday, November 30,
2006
Six volunteers, all Baker Chapel members
worked today. They
finished installing drywall on the walls in the
restroom next to the
nursery. Yeah! Check that room off the list.
They installed drywall
on the ceiling of the women's restroom. They
attached the plates to
the wall in one of the class rooms for second
story storage.

Frank's installed more duct work today,
installed dampers and
parts to the fire alarm system. The block
layers returned today, and
worked on the south side. Volunteers finished
installing the drywall
on the ceiling in the nursery, and some on the
walls in the restroom
next to the nursery.

Monday, November 27, 2006
Today's volunteers were small in number.
But, they were large in
determination and a good heart. They installed
several corners and
starter strips for the vinyl siding. Also
another 100 sheets of
drywall was delivered today. Some lumber was
also delivered today.
This lumber will be used for a bulk head in the
sanctuary for lighting
and sound system. We are also going to build
some storage rooms
above a couple of the rooms.

Saturday, November 25,
2006
Fifteen volunteers worked at various times
today. Ron Devasher
from Avon UMC was back yesterday and today (for
the second time).
Mike Beaven from Newburgh and Tim Watson and his
sons, from
Cloverdale. The remaining volunteers were from
Baker Chapel. We
finished installing the drywall in the big
hallway. YEE HAW!!!! I
know that some of you are wondering, how big is
this hallway, they
have been working on it forever. Well it is
quite big. Many walls,
as well has many obstacles to work around. We
also finished the
closet next to the fellowship hall, the ceiling
and the remaining
walls in the infant room, the ceiling in the
restroom next to the
nursery, and started on the ceiling in the
nursery. We ran out of
drywall. It is a good feeling to do the mental
check-mark when a
room is finished. Others worked on electric and
installed caulking
around the duct work going through the outside
walls. Kristi Shreve
provided a hearty lunch of chili soup and
grilled cheese sandwiches.
We also polished off a few left over deserts in
the frig.
Philip
Friday, November 24, 2006
Volunteers worked under bright sunny skies
today. They finished
the soffit on the south side. All of the soffit
is finished now.
They installed some flashing on the top of the
cap stone. This is in
preparation for the vinyl siding. Others
installed drywall on the
hallway walls, walls in the nursery and some of
the ceiling in the
infant room.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING !!!!!!
Here at Baker Chapel we are thankful for
all the people who have
given their time, talents and gifts. Without
these things that we
have received, the rebuilding of Baker Chapel
would not be as
successful as it has been. On this day of
giving thanks, we give
thanks for everyone who has touched us with
their love and support.
Myself, I am thankful for my family. I am
also thankful for my
Baker Chapel family. This family, from the
"little ones" who let us
know they are in the church service to the
members who come with the
support of a cane, wheel chair or some type of
assistance and all of
the members in between. Our Baker Chapel gives
me love and warmth all
year. I am also thankful for two very dear
friends, who each brought their
combines and helped me finish my soybean harvest
today. What a joyful
feeling to complete harvest on the day we are to
give thanks, for a
bountiful harvest.
I hope you have many blessings to be
thankful.

Today, one block layer with two helpers
worked. These are paid
workers. The block layers we had earlier were
volunteers. They were
unable to schedule anymore days. We need to get
the blocks finished
in order to start the vinyl siding. They
finished the capstone on
the north side. Frank's installed more
ductwork. Others worked on
electric. We are hoping to get some volunteers
Friday and Saturday.
Philip
Tuesday, November 21,
2006
Very few volunteers today. They worked on
electrical, clean-up,
and worked on sealing around the temporary
doors. Three block layers
worked today installing block on the south side
of the building.
Philip
Monday, November 20, 2006
It was reported in church yesterday that we
received monetary
donations from Trinity UMC in Evansville and
Huntingburg UMC. The
Huntingburg UMC has also been providing meals
for the volunteers every
other Monday. We also received donations from
some members of
Huntingburg in memory of loved ones. Thank you
very much.
Today, Frank's installed more ductwork.
The two dry-wall
finishers worked. Baker Chapel members covered
the window sills with
plastic to protect them, finished putting
weather proofing tape around
the windows on the outside, and worked on
electrical connections. Mr.
Lutz from Boonville also volunteered helping
with the electric.
Philip
Saturday, November 18,
2006
The work day today began with two
volunteers. Then their was
one. Then back to two. By 11:00 a.m. a total
of just seven
volunteers were working. All the volunteers are
members of Baker
Chapel. I think that the fact that today was
the first day of deer
season, resulted in a low turn out. Today we
finished installing dry
wall on the west wall of the sanctuary, finished
the ceiling in the
big hallway, (Hooray!!!!!!!!)and installed some
drywall on the walls in
the utility closet between the bathrooms. Sid
worked on electrical.
Their was a crock pot of chili, sandwiches and
cookies and fresh
coffee when we arrived this morning. I think
they were provided by
the Barnett's. Thank you. I found out today,
that a friend of mine
from the Presbyterian church in Dale helped on
the church yesterday.
His help was appreciated. The last two
volunteers left a 4:30 p.m.
today.
Philip
Friday, November 17, 2006
Today the work team of 5-women and 2-men from
Noblesville First
UMC worked till noon. They have been here all
week and have
accomplished much. The volunteer from Avon who
was also here all week
was Ron DeVaisher. His son Len, is a former
pastor at Baker Chapel.
Ron's help was greatly appreciated. Also today,
six people from the
Conference worked. Some from as far away as
Corydon. These
volunteers along with Baker Chapel members
installed more dry-wall in
the hallway and on some of the walls. They also
constructed a
temporary front door, complete with hinges. The
electrician connected
wires to the breakers in the panels and worked
on the electric supply
for the in-line water heaters. Frank's
installed more duct work. It
was a partly sunny day with a cold breeze. The
last two days we have
received 2 inches of rain. This weather pattern
we have had since
August, of excessive rain, makes you wonder if
we should be
constructing an Ark instead of a church.
Philip
Thursday, November 16,
2006
Volunteers today finished installing the
rest of the fiberglass
insulation in the ceiling, finished installing
the rest of the dry-
wall in the fellowship hall, and worked on
dry-wall on the ceiling in the
big hallway. The dry-wall in the fellowship
hall has received one
coat of joint compound and some areas two
coats. The workers from
Noblesville started sanding some of the finished
dry-wall joints. The
electrician was on site today, not sure exactly
what he got done.
Philip
Wednesday, November 15,
2006
They delivered another 100 sheets of drywall
today. Two paid
professional drywall finishers arrived today.
It was decided that we
had too much drywall to finish for the
volunteers. They mainly will
be finishing the ceilings (install the tape and
joint compound) and
high parts. Knowing what to do and having the
proper equipment really
makes a difference. We still have a lot of
drywall to install. But
certain areas need to be taped and joint
compound applied as soon as
possible on the ceilings. It is easier to do
before the duct-work is
installed in those areas. More drywall was
installed on the ceiling
of the fellowship hall. The electrician was on
site today and the
Ivy Tech crew was here also. It rained most of
the day. If you
happen to live in an area that needs rain, I
would suggest that you
start building a church. Ha! Ha!
Philip
Tuesday, November 14,
2006
A total of 24 volunteers worked today.
They installed some
drywall on the ceiling of the fellowship hall.
Put more joint
compound on the drywall. Moved all the tables,
chairs, and
refrigerator into the kitchen for the lunch
area. They are all in
one room now, so everybody can fellowship while
eating. The
electrician worked today and Frank's installed
duct work. The block-
layers returned in full force. The building
gets seven rows of split-
face blocks and a 4" cap stone on the north,
west, and south sides.
The blocks are finished on the north side and
west side. They have a
good start on the south side. They have done a
few of the cap stones
as well. I forgot to mention that they came and
picked up the JLG
(large fork truck) last Saturday. This is one
of the rented pieces of
equipment we are using on site. The rent on
this machine was the
most expensive. We are finished with it now and
we are glad to see
it go.
On a personal note, I finished shelling corn
tonight. Praise the
Lord! They have forecasted heavy rain for
tonight and tomorrow.
Philip
Monday, November 13, 2006
Volunteers arrived today from Noblesville
First UMC, Evansville
Presbyterian, Avon Methodist and Baker Chapel.
Also the block layers
returned today and installed several block.
Forty-five 5 gallon
buckets of joint compound was delivered today.
Workers began putting
the tape and joint compound on the drywall
screws and cracks.

Today 19 members from Baker Chapel attended
worship services at
St. Luke's UMC in Indianapolis. They have 6000
members with 9000
people attending church. They have three
services. They had asked
some to come for a program at each of the
services. Steve Barnett
spoke at the first service, Keith Shelton at the
second service, and
Greg Perigo at the third service. They then
answered questions. They
served a lunch to the Baker Chapel members as
well as those that came
to Baker Chapel to volunteer from St. Luke's.
This is the group that
prepared and served the meals to all the people
during the blitz week-
end in Sept. Some of their members also came
down to help with the
church.

Happy Veteran's Day
Four volunteers from Hew Hope UMC in Salem
Indiana and one
volunteer from Highland UMC in Highland Indiana
worked today. Four
Baker Chapel members worked as well. They
installed drywall on the
walls in the infant room, nursery, and the
bathroom next to the
nursery. Sid worked on electrical. It is
unbelievable that they
drove 2 hours to get here worked till 3:30 p.m.
then drove back home.
These fine people like many before them leave
with the same gracious
attitude. When you thank them for coming to
help us. They all reply,
No, Thank You for letting us help. Praise the
Lord for all of the
good help that he sends to help us. Cathey, and
the Gentry girls
provided a nice hot pot of chili soup with
deserts for lunch. With
the cold front and dropping temperatures today,
it was just right.
Philip
Friday, November 10, 2006
Volunteers continued to install drywall
today. They did more of
the ceiling in the fellowship hall, bathroom
walls and hallway walls.
Frank's installed more duct work. They
installed more conduit leading
to the outside units. The group from St. Luke's
returned home today.
They helped a great deal this week. Thank you.
Philip
Thursday, November 9,
2006
St. Luke's worker returned today. They
include 13 men and 2
ladies. The ladies cook their breakfast and
evening meals for them.
They are from the East & West District. Which
extends from
Indianapolis down to Crawfordsville. They even
have one person from
Tennessee. They installed drywall today in
several areas. They
finished the kitchen, started on the ceiling in
the fellowship hall,
walls in the bathroom utility area, walls in the
hallway, walls in the
pastor study. They added some insulation in the
inside wall of the
pastor study as a sound barrier. Frank's added
more duct work. They
delivered another 160 sheets of drywall today.
I asked the truck
driver, and he thought each 4X12 sheet weighs 80
pounds.
Philip
Wednesday, November 8,
2006
Volunteers installed drywall on the ceiling
and walls in the big
hallway. Frank's installed more duct work. The
electrician worked on
wiring. The Ivy Tech class worked this morning
installing conduit to
the outside heating and cooling units.

First of all, I would like to clarify
something. I do not want to
get the credit for the web site. The web site
is designed and
maintained by Brad Buxton. I only write the
progress report, then
send to Brad. He does whatever he needs to do,
then posts it on the
web site. Judy Shelton takes most of the
pictures that are on the web
site. Thank you to Brad and Judy.
Today volunteers continued to install drywall.
They finished the
ceiling in the kitchen. Installed some on the
kitchen walls, walls in
the conference room and some on the walls in the
hallway. Frank's
installed more duct work. Their are three
separate units for the
heating and cooling. We will have three zones,
one for each unit.
This was determined to be the most economical
way for conserving
energy. Each zone will be separate, so we do
not have to heat or cool
the whole building. It appears that all the
soffit on the north side
is complete.
I hope that you took the time to vote today!

There is a very nice article in the paper
today about our service
at Baker Chapel yesterday. If you would like to
read it, go to www.courierpress.com/news/2006/nov/06/church-has-new-beginning/
If you would like to have more information about
'C.J.'s Bus' go to www.cjsbus.org
Today several volunteers from Metro Ministries-St.Luke's
worked at
Baker Chapel today. They installed drywall on
the ceiling in the
kitchen. Some of them installed soffit on the
outside. They finished
the west side and worked on the north side.
Others installed more
fiberglass insulation in the ceiling. The
company came today and
installed the rubber roof to the top of the
steeple base. It is now
completely sealed. The guy returned today to
blow more insulation
onto the outside walls. Frank's installed more
duct work. The
electrician worked on connections. They
delivered another 100 sheets
of drywall today. It began to rain about 2:30
p.m.
On a more personal note. I had a bad day. This
morning my cell phone
came off my belt while I was in the lift at
church. It fell 16 ft.
onto the concrete floor. We found most of the
pieces. I found out
from the dealership today that my pick-up needs
almost $800 in repairs
for brakes and ball joints. OUCH! The feed
auger slipped off the bin
roof and put 3500 pounds of feed on the ground.
Which I had to pick
up with a shovel. It rained this afternoon
(again). Which means
their will be no harvesting of soybeans for a
few days. Today is the
one year anniversary of the tornado. I am
starting not to like
November 6 very well.
Philip
Sunday, November 5, 2006
Webster's dictionary gives the definition for
"celebrate" as:
1. to perform, publicly, and formally 2. to
commemorate (an
anniversary) with ceremony or festivity 3. to
proclaim 4. to honor
or praise publicly.
All of this definition's fit the description of
what took place at
Baker Chapel today. Today we held our first
service in our new
building. Over 150 people gather today, just one
day short of a year
of the tornado. Our first song was " To God Be
the Glory". Tears of
joy streamed down my face during the entire
song. It was an awesome
feeling of love, and the presence of the holy
spirit filled the
sanctuary. Two firefighters from New York, one
from Louisiana, and
one from Utica were also attending. All of
these men were here on the
Sept. 11 week-end when the rebuilding of Baker
Chapel began. Several
people (myself included) gave personal testimony
of how the tornado and
the rebuilding has affected them. Words can not
describe the
atmosphere. Three different TV crews were in
attendance as well. At
one time during the service I noticed that one
of the news people were
moved to tears, as were many others present.
Jeff Parness from the
New York Says Thank You Foundation also spoke to
us. He announced
that today at 2:00 a press conference would be
held in Evansville.
The purpose of this was to announce the start of
a new foundation
titled CJ Foundation. CJ is the name of a two
year child you was
killed by the Nov. 6, 2005 tornado. CJ was
staying with his
grandparents in the mobile home park in
Vanderburgh County. CJ's
mother attended Baker Chapel today. She felt
something good needed to
come from the tragic death of her son. The
first thing this
Foundation plans to do is raise $100,000 needed
to purchase, what will
be called CJ's Bus. This bus will be a portable
playground that will
go to different disaster areas, when disaster
strikes. It will be a
secure area operated by trained professionals,
for parents affected by
the disaster to leave their children while they
take care of immediate
needs. This service was also the first time our
new "Praise Team"
participated. We also took part in communion.
It was very inspiring
to hear the testimony of many people. Even
though we sat on lawn
chairs, and had no heat. The warmth from the
love of people and the
holy spirit, was more affective than any heating
system.

Twenty plus volunteers worked today. The
McCutchanville crew came
again today. Praise the Lord! What a bunch of
dedicated volunteers.
They installed more drywall. Baker Chapel crew
installed all the
windows. WOW! Others helped with drywall and
several did extra clean-
up. Several things were removed from the
sanctuary in preparation for
service tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m. They also
installed some soffit
on the over-hang on the west side.
Philip
Friday, November 3, 2006
The group from McCutchanville returned today. We also
had a man from
Newburgh helping as well as a few Baker Chapel
people. They
installed some drywall on the walls in the
fellowship hall, sanctuary,
and kitchen. They also installed some blocks
between the studs in the
kitchen that will be used to fasten the cabinets
to the walls.
Frank's installed more duct work. The
electrician returned today.
Philip
Thursday, November 2,
2006
Four volunteers from McCutchanville Methodist Church
worked today as
well as about seven Baker Chapel members. They
finished installing
the insulation on the east wall. Installed some
drywall on the walls
of the fellowship hall and some on the west wall
in the sanctuary.
The heating guys installed more duct work. The
electrician was on
site today as well. The company switched
electrician's on us and the
one today spent most of the day familiarizing
himself with the
project. Which is not a good thing for us since
we are paying him.

It rained again most of the day. The Ivy Tech
electricians were back
this morning and again tonight. They worked on
wiring and installing
the fire alarm system. Other workers today
installed drywall to the
ceiling in one of the closets, and hallway.
They installed insulation
on the east outside wall. They secured the
showers in place. They
installed more duct work for heating and air.

Happy Halloween!!
It rained most of the day today. I failed to mention
that the windows
were delivered yesterday. I was unable to check
the site last night.
I was in the fields till 10:30 p.m. shelling
corn. So I
had not realized that they were delivered
yesterday until this
morning. Sorry! They block layers did not work
today because of the
rain. Two plumbers were back today. They have
finished the rough-
in. They have capped everything and are doing
the pressure testing.
The two showers arrived today. One will be in
each of the restrooms.
They are large, handicap accessible. We have
plans to add a gym onto
the building when funding becomes available.
Baker Chapel was, and
still is the designated Red Cross emergency
shelter for Degonia
Springs. These showers will be very useful if
the building is ever
needed as a shelter. Workers today installed
drywall to the ceiling
of the sound room, and worked on the large
hallway. We hope to get
some of the windows installed this week. We
will be having service
this Sunday morning Nov. 5 in our new church.
Even though the church
is not finished, we decided it would be a great
way to celebrate.
We will be sitting on lawn chairs, and most
likely wearing heavy
jackets. But, we will be in our new sanctuary.
Philip
Monday, October 30, 2006
Five volunteer block layers arrived today. They
started laying the
split face block which goes around the church.
Two plumbers worked
today on water lines and making connections.
The heating and air guy
(Frank) installed more duct work. It was a
beautiful day today.
Philip
Sunday, October 29, 2006
Kevin Green and Greg Perigo finished installing the
vinyl siding on
the steeple base today. Jennifer Green and
Debbie Perigo put some
walk boards around the church. This is so the
block layers can get
around the church without walking through the
mud. Thanks guys and
gals.

Saturday, October 28,
2006
Twenty-one volunteers worked today at different times.
Some working
in the morning, some in the afternoon. And some
worked all day
putting in almost 11 hours. Mike and Tom
Moesner from Dale UMC helped
today. The rest of the workers were Baker
Chapel members. Derek,
Jacob, and Logan returned the remaining 10
picnic tables that we
borrowed from the 4-H center. Five ladies did
cleaning, sweeping and
picking up scrap, they also installed some
insulation in the walls.
We installed the drywall on the ceiling in two
duct work closets, two
utility rooms, youth room, ministers study,
office and some drywall on
the walls. Installing the drywall on the
ceiling is a very slow and
difficult job. It must be two layers, to meet
fire code. The ceilings
are 16 and 18 ft. off the ground. The
4ft.X12ft. sheets are very
heavy. We use a crank lift to raise it up to
the electric lift. Then
hoist the sheets to the ceiling. They installed
some more siding on
the steeple base. The Hoofers provided an
excellent dinner. It
consisted of roast, potatoes, carrots, corn,
green beans, slaw and
rolls. It was a feast, topped off with a desert
that tasted like
heaven. It was a good day today.
Philip
Friday, October 27, 2006
The Noblesville crew worked a few hours this morning
before heading
home. We again, thank them for all their help
this week. I forgot to
mention yesterday they also worked on the
lighting in the sanctuary.
Today volunteers added more insulation. We
installed drywall on the
ceiling in two classrooms. The company was here
today to spray
insulation onto some more of the exterior
walls. The plumber was on
site today installing more pipes. Others added
braces to the wood
frame surrounding the duct work in the
sanctuary. It rained again
most of the day. We have had over 2 inches of
rain in the last two
days.
Philip
Thursday, October 26,
2006
Well guess what? It rained again, most of the day.
Volunteers worked
on installing drywall today. They worked on
walls and started on the
ceiling. The fire code requires us to install
two layers of drywall
on the ceilings. Tonight a social time with
deserts was attended by
several. It was held at the Main Street
Methodist Church in
Boonville. It was a time for members to come
and visit with the eight
volunteers from Noblesville. They included 5
men and 3 women. We
thank them for all their help this week.
Philip
Wednesday, October 25,
2006
They have almost finished the insulation in the
ceiling. They
actually ran out of insulation. They installed
more soffit. They
have installed the siding on the North side of
the steeple base. The
Ivy Tech group was back today and tonight. They
have installed more
lights in the sanctuary. They were running more
wires and making
connections. The plumbers worked today, putting
in pipes that go in
the walls. The sand was delivered for the block
layers to use.

The Mt. Vernon crew and Noblesville crew returned
today. They
completed more soffit on the eaves, and
insulation in the ceiling.

Monday, October 23, 2006
About 25 volunteers worked today. Several were from
First UMC Church
in Mt. Vernon Indiana. Some were from First UMC
Church in Noblesville
Indiana. And a few of our own Baker Chapel.
The Mt. Vernon people
had called and said they would help with the
insulation. They have
well over half of the fiberglass insulation
installed in the ceiling.
Others worked on finishing the wood frame around
the duct work in the
sanctuary. Others started on the soffit (sp?
trim around the eaves)
on the outside. They got several pieces done.
More drywall was
delivered. It was a good productive day.

Saturday, October 21,
2006
Eleven different men who are all members of Baker
Chapel worked at the
church today. Some worked part of the day, some
all day. Our blessed
Jerol has been back working the last few days.
He was there early
this morning, and still working when I left at
5:00 p.m. May God
truly bless his dedication. Thank you Jerol.
Four ladies also worked
this afternoon doing a great job of sweeping and
cleaning. Don't tell
them that after they left, the floor got dirty
again. The Shelton's
provided a fantastic lunch of home-made chicken
noodle soup, baked
ham, and fresh baked cookies. Today we
installed more drywall, almost
finished the wood frame around the duct work in
the sanctuary,
installed insulation in the ceiling, and moved
some electrical wires.
Even though it was a beautiful day outside, we
decided it was too
muddy to work on soffit. Thanks to everyone who
gave up their
Saturday to work on God's house.
Philip
Friday, October 20, 2006
Very few volunteers today. They installed more walk
ways in the
attic. Fastened boards on wall tops to attach
drywall to. Started
on the wooden frame, which will enclose the duct
work in the sanctuary.

Thursday, October 19,
2006
The Colorado team installed more drywall today. As
well as insulated
more duct work pieces. They have installed some
of the vents on the
under side of the roof edge, for ventilation.
They sealed some of the
bottom plates with caulking. Today was the last
work day for the
Colorado team. This evening at Main Street
Methodist church was a
social time with deserts. It was an opportunity
for Baker Chapel
members to meet these fine people and thank them
for their help.

Wednesday, October 18,
2006
Most of the drywall is installed on the sanctuary
walls. They did
stay away from the door and window openings so
it would not receive
water damage. Added more sound barrier
insulation. They covered one
of the walls in the fellowship hall with
drywall. More duct material
arrived today. The Colorado ladies covered
several pieces with
insulation. The Ivy Tech classes returned again
today and worked on
electrical. They installed the breaker panels
inside the large
electric boxes and started connecting the
wires. Installed some of
the wires for telephone and sound system. Kevin
started on the soffit
under the eaves. It rained again today.
Philip
Tuesday, October 17, 2006
The Colorado team installed some insulation in the
inside walls of the
sanctuary. This is for a sound barrier. They
also installed several
sheets of drywall in the sanctuary. Their are
six men and four ladies
on this team. They put some more walkway in the
attic. They are all
good hard workers. More duct work was
installed.
Philip
Monday, October 16, 2006
Ten volunteer "angels" came today from Mountain View
Presbyterian
Church in Loveland Colorado. They will be here
all week. They
started to install a walk-way in the attic.
They helped Frank's
Heating wrap insulation around the duct work,
which they began to
install today. Frank has graciously agreed to
deduct from the price
of installation for the volunteers helping him.
It rained all day
today. They also did some small electrical work
today.
Philip
Saturday, October 14,
2006
About 10 Baker Chapel members
volunteered on site today. They poured
the three pads of concrete for the HVAC units.
They also poured
concrete around the steel posts inside the
building. They worked on
electric. They installed some drywall around
the top of the side
walls in the sanctuary. This is were the duct
work will go, for the
heating and air. They also cleaned-up some of
the insulation "fuzz"
from the floors.
Philip
Thursday, October 12,
2006
Today, some of the walls in the sanctuary received some
blow-on
insulation. They completely filled the 8 inch
walls. We are not sure
yet if we will do all the walls this way. This
was a quick way, and
good insulation. We only did a few walls where
the duct work will be
installed. We will also drywall behind these
areas before the duct
work goes up. The other frame is completed for
the third pad for the
HVAC units. It appears that we might have some
new members at Baker
Chapel for the choir. On several nights well
after dark (about 9:00
p.m.)you can here a couple coyotes howling.
They carry a nice tune.
Philip
Wednesday, October 11,
2006
Today Frank's Heating arrived with sheet metal and duct
work. Frank's
received the bid to install the heating and
air. Ivy Tech students
returned today. Bob Gourley trenched the line
from the transformer to
the building. They installed conduit and pulled
the wires in from the
transformer. Others finished the floor on the
stage. Lunch was
provided by Trinity Methodist in Rockport.
Supper was provided by the
Gentry girls.
Philip
Tuesday, October 10, 2006
A few Baker Chapel members traveled to Bloomington
today. They picked up
150 folding chairs that were donated by St.Paul UMC. Don worked on
more forms for the pads for the HVAC units to
sit on. Others worked
on more wiring.
Philip
Monday, October 9, 2006
A gentleman named Don, from Goshen Indiana arrived at
Baker Chapel
today. He will be here through Friday of this
week helping. He
worked on building frames for the concrete pad
for the large heating
and cooling units today. Others worked on
electric. They also
installed some of the pipe in the mound system
today, and added more
dirt.
Philip
Saturday, October 7, 2006
There were a few volunteers that worked at Baker Chapel
today. This
week the number of volunteers have been
smaller. One of the reasons
is that some of the regular volunteers are
farmers (like myself).
Farmers are now busy working in the fields
harvesting. Today's
volunteers installed more tyvex (plastic) on the
outside sheeting.
They cut some of the access holes in the outside
walls for the
heating/air duct work. We hope to begin
installing some of this next
week.
Philip
Thursday, October 5, 2006
They stock piled more dirt for the mound system
today. Some clean-up
and picking up after last nights electrical
crew.
Philip
Wednesday, October 4,
2006
They added more dirt around the mound system today.
This morning 7
volunteers from Ivy Tech Community College
worked on electrical.
Tonight from 6-10 p.m. 15 from Ivy Tech worked
on electrical. They
pulled the large wires connecting the three
panel boxes. Installed
more conduit, pulled wires through some of the
conduit. Installed
electric wires between boxes. These people are
students who are
working towards their industrial maintenance
certification. The
building is large enough that they could all be
working in different
areas at the same time. I helped pulled nine
wires through one of the
conduits this evening. It really is pretty
easy, when you have the
proper equipment and knowledge. They will be
back again next
Wednesday.
Philip
Tuesday, October 3, 2006
Some of the rock and sand for the septic system was
delivered today.
Bob Gourley Excavating began work on the mound
system (septic) this
afternoon. Bob and his family are faithful
members of Baker Chapel.
This donation of labor and equipment will be a
huge savings to Baker
Chapel. It has finally started to dry out.
Greg started leveling
some of the dirt off today, from where we got
the clay to construct
the building pad. Someone came today to look at
the building to
provide a quote for the fire alarm system.
Philip
Monday, October 2, 2006
Today's volunteer were small in numbers. They
installed more
Ty-vex (plastic) on the outside sheeting.
Worked on electrical wiring,
and did general clean-up.
Philip
Saturday, September 30,
2006
Fourteen volunteers worked at different times today.
The outside
sheeting on the north wall is complete. They
installed the smoke
(fire-wall) board to the upper truss, on the two
required areas. They
did more electrical work. Cut a groove in the
concrete in the kitchen
floor for the electrical conduit going to the
island in the middle of
the kitchen. Worked on the stage flooring in
the sanctuary.
Philip
Friday, September 29,
2006
Today was the last day for the four people from Akron.
They consisted
of a husband and wife team and two other men.
They left about mid-
day for their 6 hour drive home. They did great
work this week, and
we look forward to them returning for our open
house. All of the
inside walls have now been framed except two
short walls
next to the showers. We will wait until the
showers are picked out
before constructing these walls. They installed
more electrical wires
today and more lights in the sanctuary. More
small odd
jobs were completed as well. Tonight Carl and I
met with a guy about
using spray-on Icynene insulation. He will
provide us a quote in the
next few days. We hope to have several here
tomorrow for another good
work day.
Philip
Thursday, September 28,
2006
The Akron volunteers returned again today. These four
people have
been very helpful this week. They are all good
workers and do very
precise work. Some of the permanent lighting
fixtures were
installed in the sanctuary. Others helped with
wire and conduit.
They worked on shortening one of the inside
walls. It was to tall
and was getting to much pressure from the
trusses. It is not a
supporting wall but had too much weight on it.
Part of the day was
also spent making some small changes in headers,
door widths, etc. It
was quite hectic during the blitz week-end and a
few things were
accidentally overlooked. This evening, work
began on the raised floor
in the sound room. There is still a lot of work
too be done, but
ever time a small project is completed we get a
little closer.
Leaving in the dark and looking back at the
church, it is an awesome
silhouette in the bright lights. I look forward
to the day (night)
when we will see those famous candle lights, in
the windows.
Philip
Wednesday, September 27,
2006
Volunteers worked on the big inside wall again today.
The Akron
volunteers returned today. They, along with
others pulled more
electric wire. Some students taking electrician
classes at Ivy Tech
college were on site helping today as well.
Their was also a class
coming tonight from 6-10 p.m. They mounted the
big electric panel
today. It is 42" wide and 7 feet long. They
began running the 2 inch
metal conduit. They mounted one of the smaller
panel boxes too. All
the windows have been covered with plastic. The
top of the steeple
base was covered with plastic. Their is a
chance of rain again
tonight.
Philip
Tuesday, September 26,
2006
Volunteers returned today to work on electric. I
failed to mention
yesterday that 4 of these volunteers are from
Akron, Indiana. They
are here helping as a mission trip. One of the
electric people is
Baker's own Sid Gerber. We have an electric
project manager who is
on site and being paid to help with and oversee
the electric
installation. Everyone else helping with the
electric has been
volunteer. The day shift volunteers today
worked on building the
large inside wall by the fellowship hall. They
also installed the
second upper plate, to some inside walls, and
installed more fire
blocks. They placed clear plastic over some on
the windows to keep
the rain out. The evening shift volunteers
worked on the steps going
around the stage. Finished the hurricane clips.
Praise the Lord!
Installed some insulation in the walls, (behind
the electric panel
board) and installed the fire proof board that
the large electric
panel will get mounted to. They also removed
some bottom wall plates
in the doorways.
Philip
Monday, September 25,
2006
The roofers returned today. They installed the
shingles on the small
roof in front and the ridge cap on the rest of
the roof. The roof is
complete. Yippee!! Six volunteers started
working on the electric
today. They installed several boxes for
switches and receptacles.
Others worked on sheeting. Several left over
materials that were not
needed were returned today. This will be a
credit to our account,
making the building material cost lower.
Philip
Saturday, September 23,
2006
The work crew consisted of six people today. All Baker
Chapel
members. That's OK, some of the other
volunteers needed a break.
They installed more fire-wall blocks and worked
on constructing another
inside wall. We are getting close to having all
the inside walls
framed. It seemed only fitting that after an
evening of high winds,
tornado warnings, and lots of rain, that I
installed some more
hurricane clips. While it poured down rain most
of the morning. For
those of you who don't know what a hurricane
clip is,( I didn't know
either until this project) let me explain. It
consists of a twisted
metal bracket that connects the bottom of the
truss to the top
plate. You fasten this bracket with 10 nails, 5
easy nails and 5
difficult nails. The difficult nails are driven
through the metal
webbing that is on the truss. I call these
nails difficult because
in order to get them through the metal, you must
first punch a hole.
Actually, this is my process, which may not be
the correct one but it
worked. (most of the time) I have a black and
blue finger nail for
the times it didn't work. Anyway, I thought I
was done until we were
leaving and discovered I missed one corner.
Only seven more, I
decided to save those for another day. OK
enough about hurricane
clips. We ended the day at 1:00. Most of us
were tired of the rain
blowing in the window frames. We have had 5.1
inches of rain in the
last 48 hours. Even though most of the shingles
are installed. A lot
of rain blew in the open areas for the doors and
windows. It is
always a risk when you mention names, for fear
of missing someone.
But I have to tell you that Carl and Jerol were
back again today. I
think that these two guys live there. Their
dedication for Baker
Chapel has continued from the old building to
the new building. These
two guys deserve to pick their seats in the new
sanctuary.
Tonight was our ice cream social. This is the
annual fundraiser for
money for mission work. Some of this money will
still go to mission
work. Just because, it always has. For the
first time, we held a
basket auction from donated items. The basket
auction money will go
to the building fund.
Philip
Friday, September 22,
2006
Workers installed more sheeting on the outside wall, on
the north
side. They only had a small amount of time this
morning before it
began to rain. They constructed a couple more
inside walls. We had
light rain off and on all day. This evening it
rained really hard with
lightning and tornado warnings. As of 9:00 p.m.
we have had 2.5
inches of rain today with more predicted
tonight. We had planned to
work tomorrow on the church. Tomorrow night is
our annual ice cream
social. It will be held at the Warrick County
4-H center 4:30-7:00
p.m. with a basket auction at 6:30 p.m.
Philip
Thursday, September 21,
2006
The roofers really went after things today. They
finished the
shingles on the big roof. They still have to do
the small roof over
the entrance and the ridge caps yet. Volunteers
put the outside
sheeting on the south side of the big gable end
today. A couple more
inside walls went up as well. Some of the tops
of the inside walls
were secured to the bottom of the trusses. All
of the metal temporary
bracing has been removed from the inside.
Everyday is a day closer,
but their is still a lot of work to do. Guess
what? Chance of rain
the next couple of days. Bummer!!!
Philip
Wednesday, September 20,
2006
The six roofers were back today. My guess is that in
the last two days
they have installed about 50 squares of
roofing. The roof has a total
of 162 squares. More inside walls were
constructed by local
volunteers and more of the wall braces have been
removed. We removed
two more of the large tents this evening that
had been used to serve
meals under.
Philip
Tuesday, September 19,
2006
Six paid roofers were on site today starting to install
shingles.
They completed the east section and have started
on the large roof.
They did get one of the motorized lifts stuck in
the mud. They were
able to pull it out with a cable. The walls to
one of the interior
closets and a couple small interior walls were
constructed. We began
installing the remainder of the hurricane clips
on the trusses. No I
am not crazy, I know we are not in a hurricane
region. This is not a
code requirement, however the building inspector
requested that they
be installed. More sheeting was installed on the
exterior walls.
Philip
Monday, September 18,
2006
Rain all day today. However, Pastor Rob Nelson who is
a minister from
Goshen Indiana (this is at least a six hour
drive) worked all day at
the site today. He installed temporary lighting
inside the
building. Carl assisted him all day. He just
showed up this morning
and wanted to help. He worked till after 5:00
p.m. Rainfall today
exceeded 1 inch.
Philip
Sunday, September 17,
2006
We had 15-20 volunteers work at the church this
afternoon. They
finished installing the rest of the tar paper on
the roof. This was
very important to help protect against the
expected rain for tonight
and tomorrow. I was unable to help today due to
a prior commitment.
They also installed some tyvex paper on the
outside walls, this will
help with the rain protection as well. They
removed more of the
bracing on the inside. Thanks to those who gave
up their Sunday
afternoon to work on God's house.
Philip
Saturday, September 16,
2006
A few volunteers arrived at 7:00 a.m. this morning.
About 20
different volunteers drifted in and out during
the day. The last one
leaving at 5:15 p.m. Most were members of Baker
Chapel, a couple were
good friends. We added some more nails in the
roof decking and
covered some of the area with tar paper. That
area covered with paper
is now ready for shingles. They added the
decking to the off set roof
around the steeple, placed some more sheeting
on the outside wall on
the north side, did some general clean-up,
graded the parking area
and some of the mud around the building. People
continued to stop by
most of the day to check on the progress. It is
hard to believe that
only eight days ago the first board was placed
on the building. Grant
and Elena picked up nails with magnets. It was
fun at first but it
quickly became boring. They did a great job;
every nail they found
did not find a tire. Some of the braces used to
steady the walls have
been removed. We ended the day by adding a 2X6
cross on top of the
church, fastened to what will be the base for
the steeple. I can tell
you, the view from the top of the steeple base
is spectacular. We
will continue to concentrate on installing
sheeting and preparing the
roof for shingles. With good weather we hope to
begin installing
roofing next week.
Philip
Friday, September 15,
2006
Twelve Mennonites returned today. They finished
setting all the big
trusses, as well as the tip top trusses. They
have all the decking on
the roof. They installed the second section for
the steeple. They
worked on a couple more inside walls. They have
removed some of the
steel pipes, that were used for bracing. There
are two small 1/2
trusses not installed. I am not sure if they
are extra, or there
might have been a print change. It is still
unbelievable how much
has taken place in the last two days. Those
guys definitely know what
they are doing.

St. John Chapter 1 verse 51 "And he saith unto him.
Verily, verily,
I say unto you. Hereafter, ye shall see heaven
open, and the angels
of God ascending and descending upon the Son of
man".
The angels descended upon Baker Chapel today. The
angels came in the
form of 45-50 Amish and Mennonite workers. I
don't know exactly how
many, because they were moving so fast I could
not count them. It was
totally amazing. Their were also a few Baker
Chapel people trying to
keep boards in front of them. They finished the
trusses on the east
section that we had started last Sat. That was
seven more trusses.
They installed all the decking and the tar paper
on this section as
well. They installed 33 of the big trusses on
the west section. They
placed 23 of the tip top trusses on top of
those. Most of these
trusses are already covered with the decking.
They constructed
several more inside walls. At one point during
the afternoon, they
were setting 6 trusses per hour. Some of the
workers were perched in
the trusses like birds. When the next truss was
set in place, they
would be ready to attack it with 2X4 bracing.
They have added some
framing for windows. Started the upper walls
for the steeple.
Several people provided lunch for the workers.
I am not sure how many
will return tomorrow. They did not think they
would all be back. No
matter how many return, we will welcome them
with open arms.

The bad news is - "it has rained a lot". The good news
is - "it
rained this week, and not last week." We have
had 4 inches of rain in
the last three days. It did look like someone
might have swept the
water out of the church today, the concrete was
dry. It still amazes
me the amount of interest in the building. The
last two evenings
people who are not members came to the site
while I was there. Both
times it was drizzling rain.
Philip
Monday, September 11,
2006
Work at the site was very limited today. Greg Buxton
fabricated some
metal hanger brackets. These brackets were
welded to the metal
support poles to hang the trusses on. They were
welded on by Greg
Buxton and Greg Perigo. Some more clean-up was
done of loose debris.
We had heavy rains today, with rain total in
excess of 1 inch. Their
is an 85% chance of rain tomorrow as well. It
might be a few days
before any progress can resume.
Philip
Sunday, September 10,
2006
Volunteers arrived this morning at 6:30 a.m. to set-up
chairs for the
memorial service. They cleaned the bleachers
and picked-up things.
The memorial service was quite impressive. The
bag pipes, color guard
parade of fire fighters, and first responders
will not soon be
forgotten. The choir from Centenary U.M.C.
provided the music. After
the service which included Communion everyone
stood in front of the
new building for a group picture. I tried to
count those in
attendance. I estimate that between 650-700
people attended. I am
quite certain that this is the largest number of
people to have ever
been on this holy ground at one time. This may
have been the first
time for this large number of people, but I
don't believe it will
be the last. After the group picture the Gentry
sisters sang "God
Bless the U.S.A". Which grew a large applause.
Everyone was invited
to a delicious brunch served by St. Luke's
Methodist Church of
Indianapolis. I am sure that I have left many
things out which took
took place these last three days. It was truly
an awesome experience,
of which I will never forget.
Philip
Saturday, September 9,
2006
Some workers began arriving at 6:30 a.m. this
morning to begin
working. Today more inside walls were raised.
The outside wall
sheeting that is installed is completely
nailed. Some of the vapor
barrier was installed on the sheeting as well.
We set the BIG support
truss which is the dividing truss close to the
center on the church.
After this truss was drilled and bolted into
place, eleven matching
trusses were placed next in line. Most of the
required firewall
spacer blocks have been installed as well.
Several new volunteers
were helping today as well as a large number of
spectators. The
Mennonites were not available today due to a
prior commitment. The
Warrick County Red Cross were on site both days
providing excellent
care. Many times throughout both days,
businesses sent out treats and
refreshments. We thank you. Special thanks to
Greg and Debbie Perigo,
Jerol and Bonnie Watson, George, Cindy and
Elizabeth Lewis for their
added dedication. They stayed late to help move
bleachers and items
preparing for the service tomorrow. Tomorrow at
9:00 a.m. will be a
memorial service on site. It is suggested to
arrive early because the
highway will be closed during the procession of
firefighters and first
responders. A large crowd attended the
community BBQ at Boonville
High School. The firefighters played past
members of the BHS girls
softball team in a slow pitch softball game.
These last two days an
amazing amount of work has been done, but we
still have a long
way to go. Thanks to ALL the volunteers up to
this point.

Friday, September 8, 2006
Their were two TV stations already on site at 6:15 a.m.
this morning.
Activities began at 8:00 at Main Street
Methodist Church in
Boonville. It began with a breakfast, followed
by several speakers
and presentations. The Mennonites who were here
to help today left
the breakfast at about 8:45 a.m. They were very
eager to begin
rebuilding. Immediately upon arriving on site
and after a safety
meeting, they quickly went to work. At about
10:00 the other
volunteers who attended the full program began
arriving. At 10:15
I placed a bible in what will be our new
sanctuary. This bible was in
the former church and survived the tornado.
This bible remained their
all day. At 11:00 the first section of wall was
erected. It was on
the west wall in the north corner. Tears of joy
streamed down my
cheeks when I realized that they had used my
chain from my truck to
support this wall while lifting with the fork
truck. This was the
biggest section to go up at one time all day.
Most sections were
supported by the lift in the center while a line
of volunteers lifted
as well.
11:35 - Middle section of west wall.
12:00 - South section of west wall.
12:25 - Middle section of south wall.
1:45 - South wall east end corner.
2:20 -East wall south corner.
2:25 - North wall west corner.
2:35 - East wall 2nd. section.
2:50 - North wall 3rd. section.
2:55 - North wall 4th. section.
3:05 - East wall 3rd. section.
3:00 - 3:15 North wall sections. 4 and 5
3:15 - North wall section 6.
3:30 - North wall last section
SHAZAM !!!!! All outside walls were up. As you
can tell by the
times which are fairly accurate. More than one
crew was working in
different locations.
3:40 - The inside wall of the entrance area went
up. (This is
actually considered on outside wall).
5:20 - The first interior wall went up next to
the kitchen.
Most of the exterior OSB board has been
installed. The raised stage
area in front of the sanctuary was built. The
second interior was
raised. The third wall is built and ready to be
raised.
The trusses are on site. I am unable to give
you a report for the
events after 7:00 p.m. I left to attend the BHS
football game were
my son Logan was recognized with 17 other
students, who received a 4.0
during the spring semester. (proud dad)
I can not put into words the feeling that comes
from working on this
new building. Many will return to the site
tomorrow to continue the
building. Breakfast, lunch on site, and an
evening meal on site was
provided and prepared by St. Luke's United
Methodist Church in
Indianapolis, Indiana. Thank You.

Neil's crew finished the concrete this morning. The
four vertical
steel support beams in the middle have been
installed. The lumber is
now on site in several piles. Tonight two more
tents went up. At
5:00 p.m. news 14 was on site. At 8:00 p.m. Fox
7 news was on site.
Tomorrow is the big day when all the New York
firefighters as well as
many other volunteers will arrive. Skelton

down the old parking lot tonight. Tomorrow we
will Rock-N-Roll. I
forgot to mention yesterday that a new flag pole
was installed.

Concrete workers were on site early this morning. They
have poured
2/3 of the slab, about 110 yards of concrete.
The plumbers finished
this morning. Yippee, Yeah, Hooray!! (it is
about time) After the
plumbing was inspected, Neil's crew quickly went
to work. They added
the rest of the rock, plastic, and this section
is now ready for
concrete which they will pour tomorrow. Several
more loads of rock
were added to the parking area. Vectren buried
the line to the
transformer for electricity. Beginning at 4:30
p.m. a host of several
volunteers went to work. Some of these workers
continued past 9:00
p.m. tonight. They moved two tents, set-up four
huge tents and got
another tent ready to go up. Brought in 7 more
sets of bleachers and
thirteen more picnic tables. Put up signs and
probably things I don't
even know about. It was amazing. Preacher
Mike's sermon last Sunday
was titled "I will Dance! I will sing". I can
tell you tonight under
the glow of the two huge parking lights and the
moon, that slab of
concrete was beautiful. We're going to have an
awesome place
to "Dance and Sing".

Neil Barnett and his crew installed the rock, which
goes under the
concrete slab. They plan to pour concrete on
2/3 of the slab
tomorrow. The plumbers were on site today.
They should finish in
the morning.. Then the plumbing has to be
inspected. The plumbers have
been the hold-up. That is why they can only
pour 2/3 of the slab.
The remaining part is where the plumbing is
located. They hauled
rock and added to the entrance and some in the
north parking lot.
The only had one truck available to haul rock
today.

While many people celebrated Labor Day as a day off.
Work on Baker
Chapel continued today. Brad and Greg Buxton
along with Kevin Green finished the
conduit for the sound system. Greg and I moved
dirt most of the
afternoon. We have finished the final grade for
the remainder of the
North parking lot and the new entrance. It is
now ready for rock.
Debbie Perigo cleaned mud from the parking lot
(right before we added
more) sorry Debbie. Mike Watson mowed and Mary
Beth removed sprouts
from the bank along the highway. This evening
several people helped
to move two bleachers and 20 picnic tables to
the site for next week-
end. Thanks, to Scott, George, Logan and Philip
for trucks and
trailers. Also thanks to all the people who
helped load and unload.
We finished in the dark tonight. I realized
that we will be needing
two generating power plants for additional
lighting. Can anyone help
with this? The next few days will be very busy.
Please pray for safe
and speedy progress.

Sunday September 3, 2006
Work at the building site was very limited today. We
needed a break.
Kevin Green worked on installing conduit for the
sound system in the
sanctuary. This will be under the concrete
floor. This was actually
a re-work. The sound person changed their mind
from yesterday as
what size it needed to be. It needed to be
larger. Some of us worked
on the lay-out on were to position tents,
bleachers, etc. for next
week-end.

WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a difference a day can
make. Today was a
big progress day at Baker Chapel. Workers began
today at 7:00 a.m.
We began in a drizzle type rain. It sprinkled
heavy at times, but
everyone kept on working. Several volunteers
were on hand today.
Some staying all day, while others worked while
they could. I called a
couple of my good friends last night for help
today. Special thanks
to Dale Downey from Schnur Farms for mowing the
parking and tent
area. A big thank you to Kurt Stahl of Stahl
farms. Kurt brought a
big tractor with dirt pan. He moved dirt for a
few hours, and left
his machine for us to use the remainder of the
day. The repairs to
the other dirt pan from our breakdown yesterday
made it through the
day. (Thanks to Bobby Gourley for a good welding
job) At one time
today I counted 27 cars in the parking lot,
belonging to all the
workers. Some lovely ladies provided lunch and
the coconut cream pie
was like a slice of heaven.
A lot of clean-up work was done today, both on site and
next door. I
lost track, but I think we had at least 12 truck
loads of rock
delivered. All but 2 loads were used in the
parking lot area and
driveway. The other 2 loads were used as
back-fill around the
concrete blocks. Before adding the back fill
rock, a termite control
barrier was sprayed and the perimeter tile was
installed. Some of
the floor area has been covered in plastic. The
entire floor area
must be covered with rock before the concrete is
poured. We moved a
lot of dirt today. Most of it was for
controlled drainage and
bringing the rest of the parking area up to
grade. The last of the
workers left at 6:50 p.m. to the start of a
beautiful sunset. The
only time I think the sun shined all day.

It was a good day at the building site today. I
am afraid to try and
mention names of workers today, in case I leave
some one out. I can
tell you that at 4:00 their was still 7 men on
the job. All members
of Baker Chapel. They finished the block today.
They poured the
concrete for the electric transformer. They
installed the Styrofoam
inside the blocks. We have put three truck loads
of rock on the North
parking lot. I can tell you that, three loads
does not go very far.
We have cut the entrance to grade and have
placed one load of rock in
the entrance. We have three trucks scheduled to
haul rock until noon
tomorrow. The plumbers got a good start on the
plumbing today. We
hope to have several on hand to help tomorrow
with various tasks.
Their is still a lot of interest in the
construction. From 6:30 p.m.
till 8:00 p.m. this evening six vehicles entered
the parking lot to
check out the progress. We might want to
consider start charging a
spectator fee for the building fund. I am sorry
I do not know who
served the workers dinner today. I did not help
with the site until
4:00 today and they were still talking about the
great tasting
casserole. One of the wheels broke off the dirt
pan this evening.
Hopefully our repair job will hold, we will give
it a good test
tomorrow. Please continue to pray for the
safety and speedy progress
of our workers.

The block layers arrived early this morning. They had
a good day, I
would say that 3/4 of the block are now done.
Neil Barnett began
digging for the plumbing, which goes under the
concrete slab. Kevin
Green, Jerol Watson, and Carl Barnett have the
area ready for
concrete, that the transformer sits on. I know
someone brought lunch
today. I do not know who (sorry about that)but
thank you very much.
If others helped that I did not know about,
thank you as well. We hope
to have several help Sat. We have several small
jobs that need to be
completed.

Today they did some block preparation work. The
did not actually lay
any block. They moved some block and mortar to
the building site.
They also spaced block out getting ready. They
hope to start actual
laying of block tomorrow. It is still to muddy
to do anymore dirt
work.

Tuesday, August 29,2006
Today volunteers removed the mud, dirt, and cleaned the concrete
footings. Those that I know of who worked are
Gene and Carol Green,
Greg Buxton, Judy Shelton and Carl Barnett.
Thank you very much. I
have been told they look great. If any others
helped, thank you as
well. Kevin Green dug the trench and footing
for the concrete pad for
the transformer. I myself did not work on the
site today. It is
possible they might start laying block tomorrow.

The concrete blocks and mortar was delivered today as scheduled.
Because of the excess rain and mud, the blocks
were placed on the old
parking lot. When the ground dries, they will
return to place the
blocks at the building area. It is hopeful that
with no more rain,
they could be able to lay the blocks on Wed.
Because of the ground
conditions, no other work was performed today.
We are once again,
reminded that, we are on God's schedule.

Well, Greg and I had big plans today. We were going to get the
north
parking lot to final grade, so it would be ready
for rock. We
intended to work more on the drainage
water-way. We intended to get
the field across the road mowed, to use for
parking. The Rudolph Bros.
and Bob and Ruth Peters are going to let us use
the field across from
the church as parking for cars during the
week-end of Sept. 8. God had
different plans for us and the site today. At
about 1:30 p.m. (shortly
after we began) it began to rain. This ended
work on the site for
today.

August 26, 2006
Workers were on site at 6:00 a.m. today. They
finished the re-bar,
and the first concrete truck arrived at 7:00
a.m. I failed to mention
yesterday that we have only prepared the
footings for the church
building. We have NOT done the gym footings,
until we can get a
better idea of funding. The concrete was poured
today in the church
building footing. Several people were on hand
to help. We were
blessed today with no rain at the site. Greg
and I continued to move
dirt today. When we left the site today at 4:45
p.m. it still had not
rained on site. It had rained very hard less
than 1/2 mile away at
about 2:30. We really owe Greg Perigo a huge
thank you. His
expertise in blue prints and moving dirt has
saved several thousand
dollars. Lunch was again served, to those
still working at noon.
Thank you to Dorothy, Gayle and Marsha, it was a
welcome treat.
Tomorrow's work schedule will depend on the
weather. The concrete
blocks will arrive on Monday, as will the block
layers, weather
permitting.
If we have as much interest in Baker Chapel
after it is built, as we
have had during construction, it will be great.
It is almost a
constant flow of on-lookers.

WOW!!!!!!
What a day at the building site. Today, Ash Iron Springs
Construction, Gourley Construction, and Green
Construction began
digging the footings today. We had several
additional volunteers, who
came a different times today. And by 6:30 p.m.
today most of the re-
bar had been installed and secured. Tomorrow
morning at 7:00 a.m. the
concrete trucks will start arriving. Also
today, Greg Perigo
installed the culvert to the entrance over the
waterway. We will test
this entrance tomorrow with the concrete
trucks. We received a nice
lunch and a wonderful blackberry cobbler.
Thanks to Jeff and Noel
Loehr, and Carol Green. Pray for no rain.

Greetings,
This is the first of what I hope to be many
current updates on the
building project for the web site.
Today we finished final grading of the dirt pad
for the building. The
final compaction test was taken and approved.
This evening Doug Bacon
and Kevin Green measured, and marked the
perimeter out for the
footing. I continued to move dirt for the
surrounding area.
Tomorrow morning, they will begin digging for
the footing. After the
footing is dug out, re-bar will be added and
secured in the footing.
The next step would be to add the concrete to
the footing.
